Not really my type of pub, but still quite nice. Decent beers on tap, and a lovely outdoor area. Friendly staff as well. Still, a bit too fancy for my tastes.

My wife and I stopped into the Customs House for a snack and a couple of cold beers on a beautiful sunny day after walking around and exploring the Newcastle waterfront.
We sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine and the water view across the street.
Though we didn't order lunch or anything, we had quick service and enjoyed our time here.
The important thing was, the beer was cold and the service was good.
There is a bunch of construction going on all around, but you can't stop progress! I'm sure things will be even better when that is completed.
Despite some of the poor reviews, we enjoyed our time here and loved the view.

We have been enjoying drinks and meals at this water view establishment in Newcastle for several years now ... our local so to speak, consistent service, consistent food all you want from a local. For us oysters were always a happy staple.
Our most recent and probably our last for a while was such a disappointment, food was poor and carelessly presented, service was slack.

Went there recently for a business dinner. This is an annual affair. Usually very good. Not this time. Lost the seating plan. Changed the menu choices. Some people went home hungry. Prawn cocktail and the pumpkin tart were nice. The chicken which wasn't ordered was pale, insipid and under cooked. The chocolate cake/pudding (which wasn't chosen) was heavy, dense and almost inedible. Looked like a Woolworths mud cake.
Wait staff not very attentive. And dressed far too casually. Jeans and joggers?!?!
Maybe it was teething problems as the venue has recently been taken over by new owners or management. Sorry, but not good enough.
Seriously looking at a different venue for next year.
Wouldn't recommend which is disappointing.

This place is being heavily affected by the current transformation work going on in the city, which would make you think they would take better care of their few patrons. We Googled to find a place after we had finished dinner nearby. We went to this place because firstly, they advertised they were open, and secondly because they had advertised a DJ. When we got in @ 10:45pm, there were two groups in there and the DJ playing. We ordered our drinks and literally as we sat down the DJ stopped and packed up and the bar staff turned the lights on. We felt as if we were definately not wanted. Poor form.
