Very disappointing reponse. My canoe got caught on a hidden branch and flipped leaving me stranded in the middle of the river holding onto a branch in an extremely strong current. My partner on a seperate boat contacted the company for help and nobody knew what to do or who to contact. Finially, after i got my self out of the water with the help of my partner and a very kind stranger ( i can swim but due to the trapped canoe the current aganist it was extreamly strong and made it difficult to swim) the owner and a worker of the company came. They did not ask if i was ok, if i needed medical attention ABSOULTY did not care about me welfare, all they cared about was their canoe stuck in the water. Not incident report or anything. Overall just complete lack of customer care. Will never return or recommend (especially for families with children). When confronted about my concerns the owner or staff did not care.
6 of us did this trip from The Water Works on Australia Day 2017,Also 10 of us did this 3 yrs ago with the same company.I'm a local although I see many tourists doing this trip too.Great guys to deal with, great price too, great fun.I will do it a few times more yet with visiting friends & family
My wife and I are back for our second canoe trip down the Murray River. At the start of 2016, just after xmas we stayed at the Hovel Tree Motel in Albury, NSW, which is just opposite Noriel Park where the Canoe Man picks you up from. We started our trip about 30 minutes up stream from mangabareena and finished the trip where we started from around 4 hrs later. We stopped along the way and had a picnic. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. That's why we are back again. Very meditative. Very relaxing.
A canoe is not cheap to buy. And not a good investment if you're only likely to use it a couple of times a year. But luckily for us Albury district residents (and the smart travellers who chose us as a holiday destination) - you can experience all the fun of paddling/floating a canoe down the Murray thanks to Canoe The Murray. For $30, the guys meet you at the boat ramp at Noreuil Park, and drive you out to The Waterworks or Mungabareena. They set the canoe or kayak in the water for you; help you into a lifejacket; and into the canoe. They give you the basic instructions you need, and you're off...for 3 hours or so of the most beautiful relaxing float down the river back to Noreuil Park. They'll be there to meet you and help you up to the ramp and out of your canoe. They even mind your car keys for you if you dont want to take them with you. We stopped for a half hour picnic along the way. Others stopped for a swim. I took my phone in a ziplock bag - no problems. I recommend taking sunscreen, a hat, a towel (to sit on or cover your legs from the sun), and a water bottle. You can paddle on your own, or in a 2 or 3 person canoe. Great fun!
I contacted Michael, the owner of Murray River Canoe Trips to ask if I could just try my hand at Kayaking.
He picked me up at Noreuil Park in Albury along with a group of 5 people and drove us to Doctors Point a 1 to 11/2 hour trip on a kayak or canoe down stream back to Noreiul Park. I watched as Michael briefed the group on the trip and off they went in 2 and a person canoes.
Then I was taken to a beautiful spot a little further upstream where the river current would not influence the kayak.
I was shown the ropes and shoved off, only to get the wobbles and over I went. Returning to the boat ramp, Michael told me he expected me to roll over, then he showed me how to balance better using the paddle to help and off I went again. It was fantastic after I had some confidence and I paddled around for half an hour. It was really great and on returning to the ramp I was beaming. Michael said it was easy and it was.
We loaded the kayak and returned to Noreuil Park. For this hour he would not accept payment and told me he was happy to teach me the ropes.
I could not recommend a business any higher and if you are looking for an adventure in a kayak or canoe, contact Murray River Canoe trips. Info@canoethemurray.com.au or phone Michael on 0487 422 663
My husband and I have done canoeing before and we certainly didn't want to miss a tour on the Murray river. I can definitely recommend it. The tour was pretty great but we didn't go for a swim. Also make sure you are packing sunscreen!!!
