Hilltop village, big church, warm welcome, lovely host, excellent food... And also excellent wine. Handy if you can speak Italian (no menu) but I'm sure the owner will try his best with those who don't. We ate lovely rabbit salad, excellent marinaded raw beef, pasta with mushrooms (tajarin, thin, long, good) and lamb with potatoes. Slow Food recommended

We were a group of 9 so had prebooked. We were presented with a lovely table indoors (great views outside - but the terrace was full). We were presented with 4 fabulous appetizers, braesola, marinated peppers were 2. We could choose our main dishes, I had roasted rabbit which was superb. A choice of 2 desserts, coffee, water and jugs of house wine - refilled! All for 20E per head. Fantastic value and the food was delicious. Excellent service too.

They say that people from Piedmont love, and practice, the virtue of understatement. Well, the owner of this place is surely a perfect example. Imagine someone who clearly loves his work, who does it very well by the way, but who has clearly no interest in the notion of "a positive image", starting with his look, going to the description of the dishes, which, he claims, are "just normal". On the contrary, they are very good, and the place is very nice; a small, very simple trattoria in one of the hilltop villages of the Roero wine district (in itself, a lovely place), with some rooms (we did not see them), and a small open air terrace which nicely supplements the dining rooms in the good season. The menu is based on local classics, with some house specials. We tried their good entrees, including an excellent marinated beef, then vitello tonnato, and asparagus crepes with a fondue of Raschera cheese which was rich and tasty. Then came the very good tajarin with different sauces - we tried the excellent classic ragout and a porcini mushrooms sauce - and an excellent beef brasato in wine sauce. We were five, had a good bottle of Moccagatta Nebbiolo and two carafes of the nice house white, plus coffee etc, and the overal bill was 120 euros - like 24 per capita. In Rome this would be what you pay for two in a good place and for three in a lousy one: given the quality of the food, this was a gift fron heaven. Just note we were all fluent in Italian, don't know if the owner/maitre speaks anything but italian - but they are so nice that they will surely find a way to understand you.
