Rakiura Lodge was excellent for our needs we were a group of 7, and wanted 4 rooms with 2 bathrooms, and a big enough lounge area to accomodate us all, which is what we booked, great price, Mona the Manager was easy to deal with, she picked us up from our flight and dropped us back for the return flight. The property was an easy 5 minute walk to the main village, the South Seas Hotel was great for lunches and evening meals, and a great pub quiz on Sunday night! We throughly enjoyed our 1st time visit to Stewart Island, it defintly experienced 4 seasons in each day - Wet weather gear a must - didn't stop us from enjoying the outdoors each day.

We were looking for accommodation for a party of 6 comprising two married couples and two singles, all in the seniors age group. There is limited accommodation on the island but we came across this lodge via the web. The four bedrooms supported by two separate bathrooms was an excellent solution at a lower price than any other alternatives.
Constructed in the last few years the building was of good quality and fitted out extremely well. We were able to cook and wash clothes as required in perfect comfort. The beds were good too.
An added delight was the outside sitting area where we were able to sit in the late afternoon and observe the tui in the rimu trees and feed the kaka with peanuts provided by the management(a nice touch). On one occasion we had 6 kaka on the outside table clutching the peanuts in one claw and chewing away.
Mona, the on site manager was very helpful with advice and transport. The Lodge is a very comfortable 5 minute walk to the store and hotel
