Description: Rata is a collaboration between internationally recognised Michelin starred & New Zealand Masterchef judge, Josh Emett and highly regarded local restaurateur, Fleur Caulton. Their company, Mayfare Limited, is fast becoming synonymous in New Zealand for creating genuine dining experiences that are contemporary and inspired. 'Uniquely Southern', Rata takes inspiration from the Southern landscapes and everything that epitomises New Zealand. The decor uses influences from the Otago scenery mixed with modern industrial elements and reclaimed & repurposed vintage items to create a uniquely contemporary and welcoming dining room. Queenstown's cooler climate lends itself to Josh's love of slow cooked dishes and robust flavours, the discipline of his Michelin star background and that of Executive Chef Chris Scott who heads up the Rata kitchen, ensures elegant well-balanced and inspired cuisine that always showcases the best of regional and seasonal produce. The wine list proudly showcases wines from the Otago region and afar with a large selection of wines by the glass to give the diners variety, and match easily with the style of food. Rata is a relaxed eating-house with a neighbourhood feel, excellent service and exceptional food. Located discreetly away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, tucked alongside heritage buildings with several dining spaces perfect for lunch, dinner and casual grazing. Rata is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy award winning and genuine Southern hospitality.

Really enjoyed my birthday dinner at Rata, great service, amazing food.

We had the $85 feast menu and everyone was happy with the variety in the menu and we loved that we all got to taste the different dishes.

Would definitely dine here again.

Excellent setting, attentive staff, and an amazing menu. Everything we tasted was delicious and so creatively prepared. The food literally melts in your mouth! We tasted a variety of local Otago white wines by the glass throughout the duration of the meal. It is such a unique menu and experience that we asked out server tonpace out the meal so that we could really enjoy ourselves. True perfection, thank you for a magical evening.

We had an amazing dinner at Rata over the Easter long weekend. The Angus Beef Tartare was to die for. The whole meal was very, very good (my husband rated it in his Top 10 meals ever). The dining room was lovely (with thoughtful touches like a hook on the wall behind our table to hang a coat/bags) and the service was excellent and very friendly. We loved our whole experience at Rata and will definitely return, when we visit Queenstown again.

My husband had booked dinner here for a Monday night. It is the only restaurant in the world where we have had to secure a booking with a credit card deposit. So on this basis we then expect extraordinary things. We even arrived early! We appreciated the email confirmation for dinner.

Service is flawless - our waitress was friendly and also highly informed on the menu and wines providing excellent wine selection and tastings. Indeed all staff were authentic friendly and seemed happy!

We opted for cocktails that were elegant and subtle - I can’t recall the names sorry! Mine had sake and a lychee liquor - soft and warm. A must they are unique cocktails.

We opted for three ‘bites’ and a main each and shared a dessert. The cheese profiteroles are a must as is the clams - that sauce. The Octopus also was a winner - we like the tapas share plate style. The mains were hit and miss - Butter fish was flavoursome, moist and beautifully cooked with a crisp skin - a hit:)

My husband got the miss :( - he had the pork and sorry but whilst each element was beautifully cooked it was just bland and boring.

I would go again and I do understand the need for a deposit as when you are in business and people are discourteous and don’t turn up to bookings it all adds up.

We had a fabulous dinner at Rata. Not only is the dining room fabulous, but the food is inventive and delicious. My favorite part of the meal was the appetizer of goat cheese profiteroles. They were to die for, as they say. The fresh tomato salad with herbs and cheese was delicious as well as was the green salad with pea shoots. I went vegetarian the night I ate there so I cannot speak to the meat and fish dishes, but they looked terrific. We had eaten at Botswana Butchery the night previously and much preferred Rata, although the Butchery is great is you love meat.
