We liked the location of this motel. It was a short walk to the botanical gardens and within a fifteen minute walk to the city. The owners were helpful. The rooms were well maintained and in the end we were not charged for WiFi as our use was minimal. Parking is at your doorstep. If you need to be near the University, this motel is practically right across the street.

Room Tip: A good value, basic motel

My husband and 9 year old stayed here for 2 nights during our road trip around New Zealand. The room was spacious, quiet, clean and comfortable however the kitchen was small and difficult to use even for making tea and toast. On the positive side fast wired broadband was available. We recommend a visit to the Botanical Gardens just a short stroll up the road and a day trip to the Otago Penninsula.

Nice clean room but in the middle of student housing near uni - we spent a Thursday and Friday night during uni O week. It was loud and boisterous partying until after midnight. The guide on a local eco-tour told us that this is partying street almost every night, and police are about since there have been episodes of 'couch burning' in the street. Feel sorry for the motel operators. We had an amusing situation when we arrived on Thursday evening (accommodation pre-booked) and reception was signing us in and stoically ignoring the building party and band nosies coming from all around us. (It was like there was an elephant in the room that no-one cared to acknowledge!!) Room generally well equipped and supplied, but described as having full kitchenette, and actually there was only a toaster, electric jug and microwave, so meal preparation limited.

I picked this motel as it was advertised as a 10 minute walk to town and we didn't have transport. We are a fit couple but found it was at least a 20 minute walk to town and the weather was not great. The room was noisy with students and service vehicles making a lot of noise in the alley next to the room. The room itself was great - spacious, clean and comfortable.

The night we stayed here it was extremely busy. Very hard to find a parking spot. Busy main road. The room was not large at all - there were four of us and we had to settle for a one bedroom, so it was quite squeezy. The bathroom was tiny, but not as tiny as some places we stayed. Plus side was that there was a great restaurant/pub up the road who had welcoming friendly staff - it was called 'The Baaa'. We went there for dinner on a state of origin night. They were very accommodating and put the football on the television for my husband. I thought that was really nice of them, considering they probably didn't have much interest in a QLD v NSW football game. Staff here were average and service wasn't great. My husband went to see them to ask if they knew where the game would be shown on television and they basically told him to go and ask the local pubs himself.
