Clean but very small and in need of a bathroom update as felt like you were in a caravan. Ok for 1 night but would be very claustrophobic for anymore. Friendly staff. Convenient location. Easy to find from airport.

We stayed here with family for two nights on our transit to Invercargill and i must say it was a nice experience. However if youre travelling with elderly people, you might want to request ground floor rooms because the stairs to the second floor is quite narrow

Otherwise its a good place. Not very luxurious yet worth the price!

We’ve been coming and going from Christchurch courtesy of the Academy Lodge Motel for three years; flying ex-Melbourne at those inconvenient times provided by the low-cost carriers. It’s this thing about saving on costs of flying and, importantly, a friendly and comfortable motel close to the airport in which to stay. The Academy motel provides all those essential services for the late-night traveller; and at reasonable cost. Handle the main messages by e-mail, and phone ahead to confirm things on the day of departure; reception is always courteous and ‘on the ball’.

Repeat stays continue to confirm our findings; comfortable, convenient and good value. What’s not to like about the place. We stayed twice during our 10 days away Nov-Dec16. This review covers room 841 – ground floor and in the corner under the stairs to the second level. L-shaped room was clean and spacious and sufficient for a family – one double and one single bed (and plenty of room for an additional roll-in). Large comfortable king-size bed, with separate electric blanket side-to-side. Wall heater & mobile electric heater - both worked OK. Room warm. Room next to the road outside, but quiet.

Ensuite bathroom at one end, with a separate toilet; wash basin in each utility room.

Motel was 10 minutes by road from ChCh Airport – NZ$30/taxi middle of the night. Arrangements for key pick-up with reception closed worked OK. Motel just too far away from the popular airport car hire firms in Roydvale Ave for a free pick-up next morning.

Reasonable/basic cooking facilities on a couple of large shelves – microwave, toaster & kettle provided; and tea/coffe/milk. Breakfast offered at NZ$12/head, but you need to order the night before or when booking. We headed for the coffee bar/café five minutes walk down the road – cappuccini & brioche for two NZ$19.

Down side? Very little. Room was dark - six external lights mounted around the walls (one not working), but still dark. Step down from the shower unit - no hand holds. Shower tap up high - by the shower head. Bedside lamps limited value/use - insufficient light to read by, and fall off the bedside tables when you touch them.

Sure we’ll be back.

Room Tip: Room 841 under the stairs was a really comfortable easily accessible family room.

We spend our first and last nights here of our two week camper holiday. We arrived at 2 am in the morning and found the key where we were told it would be, the room nice and warm and fully equiped. Parking available. Nice quiet area close to all amenities

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms allow you to park next to the room.

Overnight stay after a late flight in to Christchurch. Keys were left out for us and the room was prepared well for us with the heater on and lights left on. Staff the next morning were excellent and very helpful and pointed us in the right direction for breakfast at a good cafe 2 minutes away. Would definitely stay again.
