I didn't find it to interesting. In a lot of ways, it was really just a bunch of old sheds with old stuff in it - some of which had some labels and a few sentences. I didn't find it to be much different than what my uncles old farm would have been like if he tidied up the place and stuck some labels on what was laying around. Also, the toilets were flooded and filled with a mozzie infestation.
It was a rainy day in Christchurch and I remembered passing by the sign on SH 73 just outside of Christchurch indicating there was a transportation museum located in Yaldhurst.
I was surprised at the number of vintage cars, buggies, fire fighting equipment, printing presses, etc that was packed into this museum. The grounds were beautiful and most of the displays were in long old warehouse buildings. The price was NZ$20 for an adult, I can tell you a 6 inch Subway sandwich with a drink and chips runs NZ$13 ... so I spent 1.5 hours in this museum and found it quite worth it.
It was not very busy and I had the place almost to myself. The exhibits were all well marked and many had stories about the exhibits (like the Mason's Taxi service or the old bicycle donated by a 90 year old in 1998, a bike he rode in a bike race way back in the 1920's.
If your a car nut, or just lover of memorabilia, I think you'll find this place fascinating!
Just some sheds filled with a few interesting cars, and many just plain old cars. Not worth $20, should be $10.
The fire engines were good though.
