It costs $20 each to get into the Quake city. It has some really great items, exhibits, photos and media that really give you a good insight into the destruction that happened. There is some really great media experiences that highlight what it was like.
It is a really good experience and well worth the admission fee to get the insight into the quake.
We learned a lot about the Christchurch earthquakes and really appreciated the friendly and helpful staff.
Quake City offers people outside of Christchurch an opportunity to learn about the effects not only of the most recent quakes but a history through the known years. Listening to the real stories of survivors was very emotional, and yet informative. The many pictorial displays were profoundly moving. A newsreel shot as the quake (Feb) took place was amazing. The artifacts were also immensely interesting. A must for all visitors
Kia ora, Thank you for taking time to leave your review of Quake City. It is really appreciated. We felt it was important to show that earthquakes are not something new in NZ. That activity didn't just start in 2010. I'm glad you mentioned the news reel footage. I try and point that out to our visitors, as it interesting for others to see that these things happen at a click of the fingers. No warning and any time of the day or night. One of the frightening aspects of earthquakes, that lack of warning. Anyway... thanks for visiting us. Regards Paul
Quake City is worth a visit in Christchurch. The interviews with those there on the day were confronting and moving and I almost couldn’t tear my eyes away. The sections on the building changes being put in place are really interesting for anyone interested in engineering and physics in general
Kia ora, I'm pleased you enjoyed your visit to Quake City. I do hope you managed to see all of the 12:51 interviews. Of course they do run for over an hour, so you may not have had time. There have been many changes to how things are built in Christchurch. Most of these are not obvious to the passerby. They are in the foundation system or inside walls. But some of the new builds have actually made a feature of their strength. Great to see. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in NZ. Regards - Paul
We visited here having received free tickets as part of the big bus 48hr combo ticket deal
Quake City is a very informative and interactive display of the two Christchurch earthquakes in 2010/11 and much more
The displays include a history of earthquakes in the area, video footage and photos of the quakes and explanations of earthquakes
The personal video accounts are extremely moving
We really recommend anyone visiting Christchurch to visit here
Kia ora John, thanks for taking time to leave your Quake City review. It is much appreciated. Most reviewers focus on the video interviews, which are indeed very moving. But I am pleased you have mentioned the history of earthquakes, felt in this area. It makes for interesting reading. I hope you were able to make full use of the 48hr pass. you can cover a fair amount of territory with that. Regards - Paul
A great mixture of history, science and human emotion. We learnt so much and the children aged 8 and 13 were interested throughout, a good mixture of immersive activities and reading. We were all very moved by the video of locals talking through their experience of this event.
Kia ora, Thank you for visiting Quake City and then taking the time to leave your review. It is much appreciated. We tried to make the exhibition of interest to as many age groups as possible. making sure there would be something to grab the attention and focus of everyone. The video is indeed moving. It is the thing most mentioned in reviews. I always respond by saying how lucky we are to have this video. Those folk were very brave, to sit down and record their memories, at a time when things were still so raw. Regards - Paul
