We had only just entered the mseum and were watching some live footage of people walking down the street at the exact moment the earthquake occurred and their reaction to a collapsing building only a few yards away when sirens started screaming. At first we thoght it was part of the film until a warden asked us to exit the building. Happily proved to be a false alarm but comforting to know their evacuation procedure worked well. Lots to see and make sure you listen to the moving first hand accounts of Christchurch citizens particularly the man waiting for his wife to emerge from the collapsed CTV building, which sadly she did not do and was one of the more than 100 people that died in that one building.

Kia ora David, As you can well imagine many businesses conduct these random evacuations and alarm tests. They are a valuable learning experience for the staff and our visitors that earthquakes can happen at any time of the day and there is no warning. Best to be prepared. The 12;51 interviews are very moving. We are so lucky that these people felt able to share their stories with us all. Kind Regards Paul - Quake City

Take time off to visit this place you will not be disappointed. It takes you back in time of the quake and shows how devastating these events were. Lives lost and historical buildings reduced to rubble. Thank you for preserving this history.

Great to gain some insight into the Earthquakes that have occurred in this region. Enjoyed watching the movie shown inside and learning about some amazing tales of survival and it was fascinating to learn about earthquakes and their effects.
