This muesem is an eye opener and heartbreaking. Its devestanting to see how an earth quake can impact a city and families so fast and for so long. IT IS A MUST WHEN IN CHRISTCHURCH
Kia ora Nikki, thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review of Quake City. Words you used, like eye opening, heartbreaking and devastating, are so appropriate for what has happened in this part of the country. The awesome power of nature. Regards Paul
We're in Christchurch for a few days so a stop at quake city felt like a must.
First impressions were that it's not as big as I expected, but even so, there's a lot crammed in to a small space.
The exhibits cover the earthquake history of the region, the big ones in 2010/2011, the recovery and processes, as well as looking to the future and how to prepare for the next ones.
There were plenty of hands on exhibits, such as a demonstration on liquefaction, and a Lego station for kids (and big kids) to design rebuilds.
Overall, worth a visit to put into perspective what happened nearly 10 years ago, and why the recovery is so major.
I accompany my daughter who want to visit quake city. Very informative staff Welcoming us. Interesting place.
Kia ora and many thanks to you and your daughter for coming to visit us. I'm glad you found our Canterbury earthquake stories interesting and, I agree, my colleagues are great! Cheers, Sarah
It is a fairly small Museum though you have access to quite a variety of information regarding the impact of the earthquakes in the life of those living in Christchurch. There is a small video which is very impressive, once it focuses on people who were in some way affected by the earthquake ... then there are a series of images and interactive rooms which give visitors a clear idea of what they were all about.
Kia ora Iolanda, thanks for visiting Christchurch and taking the time to learn about what our region has been through. The personal stories video is a must see and I'm glad you had a look through our touch-screen photographs for an idea of how it looked straight after the February 2011 event. I hope that the interactive exhibits and rebuild stories also made the city make more sense to you. Hopefully you can come check up on our rebuild again one day! Cheers, Sarah
Very informative place to get an insight of the earthquake damage that occured The information provided was excellent.
Kia ora Ian and many thanks for visiting us at Quake City and for your lovely review. Some of the insights and stories are sad, but hopefully it added to your time in Christchurch. I hope you can check in on us again as we continue our rebuild! Cheers, Sarah
This is a must to visit and very interesting. Tells you about all the earthquakes with lots of photos, films, etc. to see.
Kia ora and many thanks for visiting Quake City. Hopefully the city made a bit more sense to you after visiting - I hope you can check in on us again as we continue our rebuild! Cheers, Sarah
