We did have a little trouble finding the home of John and Ping but were delighted when we did! We were made very welcome from the onset and had the opportunity to use the two double rooms and huge bathroom during our stay. The continental breakfast was excellent and we appreciated very much that John was up early to make fresh cheese muffins for us. Thank you both for your warm hospitality and helpful directions to both Akaroa and the airport!

Room Tip: Lovely view of pretty garden from both rooms.

Thank you for your kind words. We understand your comments about our location and sadly we are unable to do much about that. We think the benefits of our property make the initial effort worth while. We enjoyed having you with us very much and I still keep the muffins turning over. "I love it". See you next time.

John and Ping were great. We arrived late which was no problem, john gave us some great tips on where to get some food before bed. John and ping offered us separate rooms and the shared bathroom was excellent. Breakfast in the morning was comprehensive and filling - would not hesitate to go again ... The perfect welcome to NZ!

This is a lovely house in a pretty little oasis on the very northern fringe of Christchurch. The owners' charm perfectly complements the house. We were amazed to find that we were offered the use of two beautifully furnished, SUPER-clean bedrooms with a spacious bathroom between these two rooms. The owners could not have been more welcoming or helpful. WE'LL BE BACK!

Room Tip: You just can't go wrong - there are only two lovely restful bedrooms and they are all yours!

I must say that we were surprised when we pulled into the neighborhood and saw the house that was, at the time we booked, the #1 rated B&B in Christchurch on TA. But the lovely two bedroom suite (as John said, what they have is really more of a home stay...they only have one set of guests at a time so, if you are just one couple like us, you have the use of the full wing (two bedrooms, a large bathroom with a very large two....maybe four :).....person spa tub and an outdoor patio overlooking the beautifully manicured garden). And, as others have said, you are immediately treated as one of the family. John and Ping could not be more gracious or helpful. It is a bit outside Christchurch (probably a 20 minute drive without traffic) but most of downtown is still pretty devastated so, once we got our bearings, we were actually glad to be on the outskirts and not fighting city traffic for making day trips to the many beautiful places to visit in the surrounding areas (Banks Peninsula, Hamner Springs, etc.). So I guess it depends what you are looking for but, for us, the places we have loved most are the ones where we have connected with the people and they have been flexible about helping us make the most out of what we want to get out of our visit. Olive House was very high on that list. Besides, it is a GREAT value when you consider what you pay versus what you get! Thank you, John and Ping...we definitely hope to return :)

We spent 3 night with John and Ping. The house is 10 minutes drive from the airport but you do not hear it. It is 15 minutes drive to downtown. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. It is part of the house so you become part of the family. The patio is beautiful. John is a very warm man knowledgeable and willing to help. Ping is a unique woman.
