The Orari B&B was a wonderful spot to put down roots for a few days at the beginning and end of our New Zealand visit. It's a well-kept property in a great neighborhood with ample amenities and attractions nearby. We stayed in two different rooms because of our split visit, so we had a great perspective on the inn. Read on for all the details...

LOCATION:
Orari is located only one block away from Christchurch's superb Botanic Gardens, is directly across the street from the city's arts center, and is just around the corner from the art market/gallery area. It's easy walking distance to the heart of downtown, and only a block away from the tram line that loops the city. It's also a simple drive from the airport, and about a 3-minute drive from a supermarket for those who plan to self-cater.

AMENITIES:
The breakfast in the morning was very good, and offered an assortment of both hot and cold dishes, including their changing signature hot breakfast of the day. In the afternoon, self-service bottles of local wines, and small snacks are out and available to guests. Within a few minutes walk are a wide variety of restaurants of all genres, including the superb brewery-cum-organic foods restaurant, Dux de Lux.

ROOMS:
Most of the rooms in the Inn have ensuite bathrooms, except for two on the ground floor: these have private bathrooms directly across the hall. The detached private bathrooms are lockable, and not a problem. The detached bathroom for Room 2 is a bit strange however -- the shower is actually a shower unit on the wall, with just a drain in the floor. When you shower, it's nearly impossible to avoid spraying water over everything in the room, including the toilet and sink. And the drain on the floor was rather slow-draining, so most of the bathroom floor was a lake by the end of a shower. The room was clearly designed for this, so it's not a problem, but was strange. The detached bathroom for Room 3 has a "real" shower instead.

The rooms themselves were comfortable, well-appointed, spacious, and relaxing. We enjoyed the views of the well-kept gardens on the property, and the rooms felt very private for being part of a B&B. Everything was meticulously clean and there was clear attention to detail.

OTHER:
The inn has a private parking lot for guests, at no charge. However, the lot is a bit small, and the driveway narrow. During our stay, one person parked at the head of the driveway, and combined with the full lot, backing out of a spot and inching our way between the building and the other parked cars was a _very_ challenging affair. If you're driving, try to get there early, and back into your spot if possible, to ease the process of escaping later!

In general, the innkeepers made us feel welcome, and our two stays were both excellent. We could not have been more pleased with our lodgings in Christchurch. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Orari at the beginning of our 2 week vacation in NZ. It was a wonderful introduction to New Zealand and Christchuch.

Truly perfect location. You could literally walk 5 min west to Hagley park or east to the center of town. So you had your pick of bars, restaurants, tourist sites, you name it!!

Hosts were friendly, helpful and made quite an impression. Wine served at 6, yummy breakfast served in the morning, and helpful tips on getting around Christchurch.

Overall- very cozy, cozy, cozy! Living room and dining rooms were large and beautifully decorated with old house charm and cheerful colors. We stayed in the room #3 which had private bathroom. Room was a bit small, but high ceilings made it seem much bigger.

Would stay there again and recommend highly!!

We stayed there on our first day in NZ after flying in from the states.
Nothing really remarkable to say about Orari, it's very central, very clean, very good breakfast, and the owners were very nice and friendly. The room was nothing special, not especially modern, but it was very comfortable and felt like home.
We recommend it highly to everyone and definitely would stay here again if we travel again to Christchurch.

Stayed at the Orari in December in the twin queen room which was nice and comfortable but as no air con had to leave the window open which meant noise from constant traffic was quite noticable. Great location for getting in and out of town so if that is the most important thing for your trip then Orari is a good choice. Rooms nice and clean but on the pricey side compared to other similar properties of same standard I have stayed in.

My husband and I are world travelers.
Since we only had one day and night to stay in Christchurch, without a car,we wanted to be centrally located to be able to see all there was to see in the city on foot or by bus.
The Orari is delightfully tucked away behind tall green hedges on a not too busy street.
Aston, the owner, and Sandy couldn't have been more helpful and were a wealth of knowledge, especially since Ashton was raised in this home and area.
Because we had 4 pieces of luggage, Ashton relocated us to a larger room, #10, which was spacious, had 2 queen beds and had a private bath, with shower, all at no extra charge...how gracious was that!
Yes, there is traffic, but minimal noise at night and if you're out and about town, this is not an issue because you'll fall fast to sleep in no time at all.
The breakfast was the best meal we had in New zealand ,so far, as we came to Christchurch a week after spending time in the North Island , touring by car in the day and and staying in hotels at night.
The Orari is well run, exceptionally clean, large and the hosts are wonderful.
