We did a one way journey Christchurch to Arthurs pass. Train was comfortable and fully booked. Scenery was very nice once we gained some elevation and into the mountains. Staff friendly and services on board were satisfactory. Commentary by earphone a little difficult to hear . Open air caboose to get better pictures was very crowded. Overall ok but we have certainly enjoyed better.

Hi deewubleu,

Thanks very much for taking the time to write us a review. I'm glad you enjoyed the comfort of the carriages and the scenery outside! We appreciate your feedback about the commentary, we are currently investigating ways we can improve our commentary system so I'll make sure to pass this on.

Best wishes,

What an awesome experience. Great views every way you look. The train was clean and tidy and the cafe kept you well fueled. The facilities were clean.

The TranzalAlpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth via Arthurs Pass in the Southern Alps of the South Island of New Zealand is one of the best short train rides in the world. You can take it in either direction and get off at Arthur’s Pass for a couple of days of tramping. We drove our rental car from the Southwest coast up to Greymouth, dropped off our car and hoped on the train to Christchurch. The train couches are fairly new and very comfortable. If you have the opportunity, don’t miss this train,

What a wonderful journey. So many different kinds of people and train lovers from all over the world. The seat are comfy and spacious. The set up for putting luggage onto the train is super efficient. They just may need to add another open view carriage for photographers as it is really hard to squeeze in at the really spectacular moments. We had to wait for animals on the line so it took just over 5 hours. There is food on the train but the menu is a bit limited, still not bad though.

Hi LizbetLondon,

Thanks so much for writing us a 5-star review! As you would have noticed, we travel through remote farmland, with a lot of animals around. Occasionally these animals can get on the tracks which just means we have to allow a little bit of time for them to pass through. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your journey overall!

Best wishes
