As expat locals who have recently moved back to NZ we spent some time in our old stomping ground of Blenheim. It’s is finally so good to see a restaurant taking the food scene to the next level in this area which is dominated by wineries and cafes that open for daytime trade. We were blown away by the all aspects of Arbour. Brad and Liz have created an experience that must be tried to be appreciated. The decor is simple yet sophisticated with a beautiful outlook onto the gardens which I imagine would be bustling in summer. The greeting was perfect. We had the ‘Many’ menu (degustation) washed down with two beautiful wines from a superb wine list - crafted to include local delights and a few gems like the ‘old weka pass Pinot noir’ available on allocation only (we definitely got that bottle!). These gems make a wine list that is a highlight in itself. Each dish of the Many was well explained, dishes were proportionate to the amount you would normally eat - we left the restaurant feeling nicely full not too much, not too little. The food was beautiful to look at and precisely plated - very photogenic food, even more flavoursome. Each dish had three key ingredients that were highlighted to bring the best flavor and experience of that ingredient, mix with the other two and party on your palate. Please forgive me I cannot remember each individual dish however I can tell you each dish was divine. A great display of restraint to not overpower or lose the essence of the ingredients, and a great cohesion of flavors. Thank you for making our fifth wedding anniversary a memorable experience from the greeting to the goodbye. We will definitely be back.
