Owner description: The highlight to any visit to Wellington is a trip on Wellington Cable Car. In just 5 minutes you will reach the top of the Botanic Garden where panoramic views of the city and harbour are the reward. You can also visit the Space Place Observatory here. Before you head back down make sure to visit the Cable Car Museum (free entry), which provides a history of the city's symbolic mode of transport and see the original cars and winding machinery on display. There are walking tracks that start at the top of the Cable Car if you're keen on a stroll back to the city. The Cable Cars leave every 10 minutes.

The cable car is just one of those things to do and experience as part of your wellington journey.. Straight up the hill to Kelburn and the Botanics. People can use it as either public transport to get to and from the top of the hill and suburbs/botanics/Zealandia etc or just to experience the views at the top and have a wonder around at the cable car museum. The ride itself is quite short (approx 4 minutes) but it goes through an interesting light show that has been created in all the tunnels. It is a tad over priced for the actual ride itself around $7.50 an adult but don't let that put your off. Great as an activity for familys. You can have a wonder around the cable car musuem which costs no extra to enter, check out the stunning views and then have a wonder around the botanics. The playground at the botanics is really neat for all age children. take a picnic from the countdown at the bottom of the car and enjoy a afternoon out.

It is a nice little ride up to the gardens and the view of Oriental Bay is lovely. However no one seems to know the name of the destination apart from the fact there is a garden.

Kia Ora and welcome, thank you for your lovely review. We call it 'the top of the Cable Car' or the 'Kelburn Lookout'. The Botanic Garden is just one of the nearby attractions.

It was like shooting fish in a barrel - tourists galore, paying a fair fare to take the red cable car up a couple of stops, and through the lit-up tunnel. To be fair, the fare included a chance to take pics on the old train model at the top, and you can walk down the small hill again afterwards, including a nice set of rose beds which are pretty to look at without the work. I just thought the cable car trip would be longer.

Kia Ora, thank you for visiting. The Cable Car is an iconic attraction in Wellington and is also a form of transport for locals trvaling between the city centre and the Kelburn Suburb. The quick historic journey only take about 5 minutes. The short trip gives you more time to visit nearby attractions at the top of the Cable Car.

View was nice at the top but I feel that for $7.50 per adult, we could’ve just walked up the hill to see the same view. Went quite slow and was very crowded when we were on there, filled with both tourists and locals trying to get home from work. Probably won’t do it again but would still recommend it to people, just so you can say you’ve done it

Kia Ora and welcome, thank you for visiting. Apologies for any inconvenience. We are quite busy during cruise ship seasons (Oct-April). You can also purchase your tickets online to avoid the queue. It is $4 one-way and $7.50 return. With one-way you can walk down through the beautiful Botanic Garden.
