It is so lovely to go to the gardens on a nice day sun shinning sitting outside under the graph vines having a coffee / tea and having a yummy cheese scone or muffin. Or you can order there great poached eggs bacon chips or other things on the menu .

After a stroll around the botanical gardens we stopped here for a lunch and were glad we did.

The staff were so helpful and friendly, giving us the run-down on what was on offer plus the specials.

We three had a lovely selection for lunch: Spanish tomato soup; a fantastic mushroom, rosemary and garlic soup; and fish cakes with poached egg and salad. Add in some glasses of Pinot Gris from the wine selection and a good lunch was had all round.

The setting is great. We were sitting outside overlooking the rose garden with its colour and bouquet. It was also really funny watching the practically tame sparrows plead for scraps - they ate bread from my hand !

A chance visit to Picnic meant that we had great lunch. Good food combined with a very helpful staff member meant we had the food we wanted in a timely manner. A great place for lunch.

The Picnic Cafe next to the Botanic Garden’s Lady Norwood Rose Garden. One can sit viewing a very large rose garden. The background view includes a wooded hill of the gardens, and a picturesque wooded hill which is part of the Wellington Northern Walkway. The menu has a nice variety. All three dishes we ordered were excellent. Very enjoyable experience.

My 11 year old son and I love coming here. They do the best thick shakes and we also love the crepes with lemon and sugar. It’s one of our favourite regular places now, and even when they’re very busy (which is often) the staff are super attentive and always make us feel welcome. The setting is also beautiful. Highly recommended!
