It seems based on reviews that we got a different hotel than everyone! However, I've noticed that the business travelers tend to have worse reviews than leisure travelers, so not sure if that makes a different in the type of room and service you get.

Our room looked more like a basic dorm room than a 4 star hotel room. Upon arrival, it would be nice if staff gave a courtesy heads up that there is an elevator which goes down to Lampton Quay (if you aren't aware of it, most likely you won't notice the small sign pointing to the elevators which are located in an obscure spot). This would have saved us walking up and down hills several times a day! Finally found out about the elevator upon reading the reviews here online.

The pillows were about the same as sleeping without one. We didn't bother ordering from the "pillow menu" as we weren't impressed so far with the quality of the room. The beds were on wheels and moved every time you sat down or tried to sit up in bed. Among the two beds, one bed was lumpy and the other hard as a rock. Also, from my personal observation, I have very sensitive skin and ended up itching all night (possibly from the type of detergent they use to wash the bed linens - wasn't from bugs as I didn't have any bites). Also, the room temperature is not controllable. It is at a constant 18, which when trying to sleep is not very comfortable. Trying to change the temperature does not work and turning on the fan aspect of it doesn't help. It would have been ok if the windows were able to be opened.

The bathroom was horrible. The toilet ran a lot and the sink took forever to drain water out. There was also a dirty film on most items (even on the sign asking patrons to reuse towels) and red lines left from fingernail polish all over the outside of the tub (not sure how those got there).

Don't waste time on the mini bar either. You can get stuff either at Fix or New World for much cheaper! For some reason our room was very loud. We heard a lot of street noise as well as the elevators going up and down. We had a room right next to the elevators. We could also hear doors slamming and people talking at all hours.

The beer at the bar was good and at a good price of $5 during certain hours.

The only saving grace we had is that staff was very accommodating about our odd check out and check in times due to flight times and work schedule.

Overall, we were highly unimpressed with this hotel and are quite baffled at its high rating. Again, this could be due to being business travelers. Most business reviews I have read regarding this place aren't good. We were even warned by coworkers not to stay here. We ended up only staying one night (cutting our reservation short) and checking in to a serviced apartment in the heart of the CBD.

Room Tip: Go for a higher floor with a harbour view, also try to get as far away from the elevators!

We enjoyed three nights at this great hotel. Facilities are solid, quiet, modern, clean, and attractive. Service at front counter and restaurant was excellent. Food good quality. WIFI and parking fees should be reduced. Elevator to lower city level is great and saves walking up the steep hills of Wellington.
