From "don't worry about completing a complicated bank transfer, we'll sort it out when you get here" to "don't worry about getting in late, I'll leave the key under the mat" - this residence is manna from heaven from start to finish. The breakfast provisions were so extensive, we couldn't finish it in two days; fresh Tuberose filled the room with a sweet smell; the simplicity of the building itself makes you want to stay out of the rat-race permanently.

We have stayed at both of these beautiful accommodations and loved every minute. The views are to die for and even though the Keep will always hold a special place in our heart, the Lighthouse's sitting room on the top floor is perfect for anytime of year. We always have the best sleep and the showers are wonderful. If you are wanting a 5-star accommodation with all the bells and whistles then go somewhere else, but if you want unique and quirky with a bit of romance thrown in, either one of these will work. We will definitely stay again, especially at the Keep!

A lovely place for watching the sea birds dive and congregate on rocks far away as far-off in the distance aeroplanes line up to land in windy Wellington.

Other reviewers have remarked that the lighthouse is for backpackers and we'd agree with that assessment. With refurbishment and a lick of paint this could be made more ship-shape and Bristol-fashioned. As it is, it's still a great spot for looking out and we did get a good night's sleep.

Could be cleaner but generally a very handy location.

We stayed for one night in the Lighthouse during our visit to New Zealand in January. I was really excited to be staying in a lighthouse and it lived up to my expectations. I was worried about the parking as I could see from the photos that there is a road between the sea and the lighthouse. In fact there is just enough width in the parking bay to safely park just outside. When I was in the lighthouse I hardly noticed the road as most of the time I was mesmerized by the sea. Fantastic to sit in the sitting room at the top and look out at the waves crashing into the rocks. I think we were lucky that the weather wasn't all that good as this made the sea fascinating. We had intended to get the bus into Wellington and do some sight seeing but instead just watched the sea.

We were left lots of good food for breakfast (half of which we ate for lunch when we arrived still leaving plenty for the next day). The carpet in the bedroom could do with replacement as it is a bit old (not a major issue as rooms so small you don't see much carpet!).

What a lovely place to stay, I recommend it to anyone.

We are SO thrilled that we stayed at The Keep. It was entirely unique, as narrow as it looks, yet spacious enough for 2 of us. When we arrived it was pouring rain -- but it was magical that way. The sound of the rain on the tin roof was beautiful. By the next day, the clouds had lifted and the sun shone away. We enjoyed the views immensely - especially as we had breakfast up on the rooftop! Going for runs along the coast was spectacular, and exploring the marine reserve it faces was also fantastic. It was a very peaceful stay in Wellington and we hope to come back -- or try out the Lighthouse -- next time we are in the country. The Keep was well stocked with breakfast food, it was clean, and it was all we needed. This place sure helps you appreciate the little things and the beautiful things that are naturally our world. 100% recommended!
