A small restaurant tucked away in a cosy corner, this place has good Indian and Malaysian food. I tried the dosa - a traditional Indian dish. It was big, tasty and crunchy. if you are walking in on a cold day, try the masala tea, it will surely pep you up!

Small Malaysian/South Indian restaurant near the CBD. We were a family of 4 that came on a Friday night and it was crowded. Typical Malaysian ambiance. Good front of house - friendly, attentive in spite of being busy.

But unfortunately...that's where the positives end. The food itself was not good. We started with Rotis and chicken and lamb curries for starters. Really disappointing given this place bears the name of this famous Malaysian dish. The Rotis were hard, not fluffy. Its like the rotis you get when you fold them rather than toss them like they do in proper restaurants like Istana Malaysia or Papa Rich. The lamb curry was OK, but chicken curry was watery and insipid.

We had the chilli chicken masala, and the chicken chetinadu which both tasted the exactly the same (very tomato-y) and not like it would in Malaysia or south india. very one dimensional, no depth. We also had the lamb sukka which tasted good but for $18.50, the portion of lamb was so meagre it wouldnt have satisfied even the poorest of appetites. Also had the beef rendang which really wasnt a rendang at all. Lacked the coconut flavour and dry texture of a proper rendang that you'd get in Istana Malaysia. Tasted more like pepper beef.

Was really looking forward to our visit here given it advertises itself as a long standing Wellington institution but was really disappointed. Maybe it was the cooks night off. Will certainly not be returning.

great little place. limited seating so maybe want to book. great authentic food at cheap pricing. lovely smells just like a street bazaar food stall.

We came here for a lunch on a wet day in Wellington. The restaurant smelled like a South Indian place should...and the food did not disappoint. We had a "Super Special Feast" off of the lunch menu that was really a southern thali. Everything was well spiced and very tasty - a real bargain at $13. We also had a masala dosa; also wonderful. As others have said, don't expect luxury and fine dining...but do expect great food at reasonable prices.

Tasty Roti Chenai for an appetizer and a sampler platter which my husband and I shared. Nicely presented and delicious to taste. Great variety on the menu. Reasonably priced.
