The website recommends the cheap double rooms for one person - they're not wrong! Not a lot of room at all, but ok for an overnight stay. Probably the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in anywhere. The room and bathroom was clean enough. Small shelf on the wall with jug and cups etc - be careful you don't knock anything on the bed! We didn't, but could see it happening. Overall ok. Easy enough walk to main shops/restaurants.Free wifi - as it should be. Too many places still charge.

Thank you for taking the time to place your review on the Wellesley Hotel on the Lake Taupo. We are pleased to hear that you found the rooms to be clean and that you appreciated the location and complimentary wifi. I will pass on your feedback with regards to the wall shelf. Yes, our smallest rooms are recommended for single occupancy but more than acceptable for an overnight stay.

The W is reasonably priced and has a funky sort of vibe with its wood panelling and African furnishings - dating back to when it was run as a hotel with an African safari sort of theme. Yep, very weird for a lake and mountain town in New Zealand! The one person rooms are well appointed with good TVs etc and great value at under $100.

I only had breakfast which was only average but there are plenty of good eating places nearby.

Room is fine not to bad, plenty of hot water for shower. Can be bit stuffy no much of air circulation in the room. Free Wi-Fi very nice of them although the speed is extremely slow. Large LED TV though that is a bonus.

Thank you for taking the time to place a review. All of our rooms have opening windows to allow in fresh air - for a room of this size, many of our customers prefer fresh air to a recirculated air conditioned unit. I am sorry that you found that Wi-Fi was slow on your device - our guests typically experience very good connections. The new TV's are great aren't they! We appreciate you taking the time to post your review.

The location is great, the amenities basic. Reads better in the blurb than actually is. The room was average with little or no extras, no phone, little wardrobe space, Good shower and plenty of hot water. Although restaurant and bar on site there appeared to be little noise. Like a rabbit warren but good fire exits. Overall clean room. Slow at reception.

Room tip: Possibly no option

Thank you for taking the time to place a review on your recent stay at our hotel. We feel like our rooms are well equipped and provide all facilities typically offered by other similar hotels. Our smaller rooms do not have wardrobes but numerous hanging/rack options are provided for your clothes. We find this is acceptable as these rooms are not typically booked for extended stay. The restaurant and bar are open for full service seven days a week.

On arrival, we had a problem booking in and had to wait very long at reception. When we asked later how to access free wi-fi, we where first told but they gave us the info and only then, they gave it to us. Rooms are very small and hot without any aircon. Not enough parking area. I had my suitcase on top of the cupboard. When I took it down, a lot of dust came down with it. The restaurant have a great view. Very bad service. We where first chased out of a area in front of other customers. Was so degrading. We had to go and order our drinks at the bar. The fish and chips was very good. Could not eat the hamburger. Patty was so hard and bun was burnt black. Bed was good. Wi_fi was good.

Room tip: It looked as if rooms 130 and 131 had good views

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay with us. We am sorry to hear you felt the check in service at reception fell below your standards. Our reception team are usually very attentive and efficient in their roles. We can only assume you arrived during a group check in which is unfortunate but unavoidable at times. We offer a big variety of room configurations from smaller budget rooms (priced accordingly), through to more spacious rooms. I have raised your comments with our restaurant team who are adamant that no customer has ever been 'chased out' and that no burger bun would be served up to customers burnt so we are at a loss to explain why you have made such comments. We do value your feedback through and of course, we are pleased that you were happy with the free wi-fi service and your comfortable bed.
