Had a nice early evening soak at these thermal pools. Nice to have no kidz around which gave a chilled vibe to the pools. Basic changing rooms but tidy and slip proof carpet on the hallways

We stopped at the Wairakei Terraces to have some relaxing time in the thermal pools. The changing rooms were clean, the hot pools are set in a nice environment. There are in total 3 common area pools, one is broken out in two sections. As children are not allowed in the pool area, it was very quiet. We visited late summer, and it was not crowded at all. Very friendly staff. Great place to relax!

We often come here to the hot pools. There are truly beautiful as well as relaxing. One of the main advantages of coming here as opposed to the other Taupo hot pools is that they do not allow children in them. This makes it a very relaxing place to go for adults. It is peaceful and calm. Perfect for enjoying the lovely pools. Be warned that the top pool by the terraces is very hot. Make sure you take water with you and do not put your head under the water as the pools are not chlorinated. You can hire towels there and there are lockers to hire for valuables. But these cost so we always leave our valuables at our accomodation. Go and enjoy.

We only went for the pools, so I can't comment on anything else. They were lovely though - really nice setting (which often isn't the case with thermal pools), and a good variety of temperatures. The hot water running in the pool from the rockface is perfect if you want heat on your shoulders but not so much anywhere else. Nice and peaceful, although quite busy at times.
My only negative is the height of the seating - they're really a bit too low, which makes it difficult to sit in the water comfortably. (We also paid using a half price voucher - at $25 a pop full price, these are some of the more expensive pools around, but we easily spent three hours there, so still pretty good value.)

The natural geothermal features are interesting, but everything else looks neglected. The map is pretty useless, and there are no signs to point out the route. We had visited the “Craters of the Moon“ the day before and found that to be much better set out with excellent walkways and plenty of signage. The Wairakei thermal area is very much smaller but more intense. We did not try out the hot pools which might be worthwhile, but we found the walk around the area very disappointing in comparison to so many wonderful natural features nearby.
