We had a night recently in the Pohutukawa room, one of the "Best Suites" in the detached house at the back. Had a chinoise theme, with a slightly clashing modern desk/chair. Two comfortable large beds, a separate wardrobe, and a bathroom separated from the rest of the room by a large frosted glass wall.
This glass wall was good in the daytime, as most of the suite's windows are in the bathroom, and meant the light from these helped illuminate the rest of the room. However, the downside was the same: that at night time the streetlights shone through the bathroom wall into the main room, and when the sun came up the next morning the room was pretty well lit. To get a lie-in, I wore an eye mask: first time in probably 20 hotel stays I've needed one. Some street noise, which is not surprising as it's located along Vivian St, one of New Plymouth's main thoroughfares.
The bathroom had a spa bath that was big enough for two. The TV had freeview, Neon and Netflix. There was no security stay on the room door. Good proper plunger coffee and a coffee machine, and a great selection of teas also.
Negligible interaction with the staff: no one was around at the appointed 10am checkout time, and others had just left their keys at the bar, so we did the same.More
