Description: Located in Taranaki’s beautiful Port area, serving food crafted with love. Bach on Breakwater first opened its doors in 2006 & is situated at the end of the Coastal Walkway, right on the waterfront at the Lee Breakwater in Taranaki’s Port area. It overlooks a child-friendly little beach, and the working shipping harbour. The Bach is warm and casual, with a comfortable and welcoming ambience generated by the purple interior, the use of many upcycled materials and the mix of very old wharf timbers. With cosy banquette seating behind the fireplace, and slab timber tables lining the extensive double-glazed windows, the atmosphere is vibrant, friendly and fun, with terrific sea views. Diners can enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch and snacks, choosing either from the delicious array of cabinet food, or the extensive and well thought out menu which includes outstanding gluten free, vegetarian and vegan offerings, as well as the normal meatatarian choices. You can be on a diet and still enjoy

Right on the foreshore - and accessible from the walkway - this is an interesting venue with plenty to attract your attention inside, coupled with great service, great views and an ambience that completes the dining experience. I'll be sure to go again when I return to New Plymouth.

If you're staying in the city, turn left along the coastal walkway and head towards the port. Granted the walkway is more interesting if you turn right but then you'd miss out on this wonderful restaurant. And wonderful it is! Great food with a huge range to cater for all diets, tastes and occasions. The coffee is also excellent and the outlook across the harbour is a bonus. But probably the most important thing about it is the local feel to the place and the locals love it. Even on a nondescript Tuesday morning there was a steady stream of them. Make the effort. Its worth it!

Decided to have lunch at the Bach. Our second visit no improvement on our first. Coffee weak and warm. The lady serving us had no idea how to work the till she was rude and dismissive. The soup was nice although the garibread that came with it was barely toasted. Tried it twice never again

Enter the rustic Bach on Breakwater, beautiful native timbers, views out to the ocean and you immediately think this is going to be great. But sadly it is far from great.
I ordered the Eggs Benedict with smoked fish. The pallid fish was flaked onto barely toasted five grain bread, and the warm poached eggs were slopped on the toast with a congealed Bene sauce. The fish was tasteless, dry and actually made me feel quite sick.
We spent $70 on three poor breakfasts and very average coffee. Never again! This is an amazing location going to waste.
