Owner description: Te Puia spans 70 hectares within the historic Te Whakarewarewa Valley, on the edge of town. We are home to the world famous Pohutu geyser, to mud pools, hot springs, to silica formations to the Kiwi bird and the national schools of wood carving, weaving, stone and bone carving. We have shared these treasures with manuhiri (visitors) for 170 years and proudly continue that legacy today.

Had been on the list for ages for our New Zealand trip. Entry was $108 NZD for the two of us - which we felt was a little expensive for what is actually a small park. Some good photo opportunities and we saw the main geyser do it’s thing, which was quite impressive. Worth a visit given the cost.

Thank Chris H

"Kia ora Chris, thank you for your feedback.

Te Puia and the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute (NZMACI) has a unique culture and commerce model, where we are mandated with the responsibility to perpetuate Maori culture, under the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute Act (1967). Te Puia - the tourism arm, is a not-for-profit organisation and surpluses are invested into NZMACI’s Maori cultural development works, which you can learn more about here. We would not be able to undertake the ground-breaking cultural initiates, both in New Zealand and around the world, without the support of visitors like you, so we thank you for your contribution.

Made a quick visit during a short visit to NZ. This place was recommended by the Tourist Information Centre (save 10% if you buy tickets there). Provided not only the geothermal experience we were looking for but also insight into Maori culture and Arts. The incredible new Arts Centre is a must visit for anyone with an interest in traditional Art and Craftwork. Definitely recommend this place, we joined one of the guided tours (included in entrance fee) and our guide Kiri was both knowledgeable and had the most beautiful way with the small children in the tour group.

Kia ora!

Thank you for the lovely comments, glad to hear you enjoyed your time here with us at Te Puia.
Our staff are awesome especially with making our manuhiri (guests) feel as though they are whanau (family)! We are so proud of our schools and the beautiful artwork created through weaving and carving - we are pleased to have shared that with you.

Thanks again for your lovely comments, we hope to see you again.

Good information and a great meal. Tour groups were too large to hear the guide easily and our guide seemed to hurry us through so she could prepare for her role in the evening dinner performance. The tour didn’t seem to accommodate those who have some physical limitations.

Well built and facilitated tours of the hot springs and overall Maori history. Kids really enjoyed walking the pathways and exploring the different parts of the park. A little pricey but well worth it if you plan 3-4 hours . The kids really enjoyed the kiwi bird exhibit . The park staff are well versed in the culture and very friendly . The gift shop offered an abundance of different local items to choose from as souvenirs.
