This area is a recent development on the Napier foreshore. It brings together an area for people to promenade, cycle, walk, communicate, play in water & even play sport. Viewed from above it is a Maori artistic emblem. Look closely & you will see Maori art which has become normalised for the community & visitors to appreciate. Visit the MTG & upstairs there is a digital explanation of this area. Then revisit the gardens & understand the significance of the design in this space.

Awesome place if you have kids - lots of playgrounds, skate park facilities, little bike tracks for the little ones, beautiful gardens, a coffee truck, awesome views - so pleased we did a big walk along here.

This attractively designed beach front area caters for all with a fabulous walking and cycling track which winds all along the coast; a junior cycle track for kiddies; sunken gardens; a swimming facility; fountains and statues; BBQs; basketball courts; benches and grassed areas for picnics; a skateboarding park ….. we walked and cycled here numerous times both during the day and at night and it never disappointed!

If you enjoy walking or cycling you will enjoy Marine Parade. Especially if the sun is shining. Concrete or sealed pathways run along beside the sea. Mini golf, National Aquarium, sunken garden, skating etc - there is plenty to see and do. Or you can sit on the beach and do nothing - but the sea is not safe for swimming (use the swimming pools at the north end of the Parade).

We walked along Marine Parade foreshore from the Aquatic center to the Information center after dinner. It was a lovely stroll and if the weather had been warmer, we would have stayed longer. The buildings mentioned are on the art deco walking tour. A floral clock. Beautiful gardens. Easy walk. Pania’s statue is closer to the Aquatic Center.

Useful tip - Near the information center is an after hours unisex toilet.

The marine parade is full of beautiful flowers, with sunken garden, sculptures and lovely people

There are lots of volunteers who gives out useful information along the walk

There is even a traffic sign controlled manually between cars and pedestrians on the walkway into centre of downtown

There is stretch of beaches along but it is not ideal for swimming( the water is too cold)

There is however a heated salted pool by the tourist information if one has the urge to dip in the water

The gardens are well maintained with beautiful flowers and the walkways are well manicured

We have a lovely stroll along the way greeted by people on bike, walking the dogs, twins in strollers etc

There are also beautiful museums with a M & M chocholate design which is worth visiting which is free to public(the Wi-Fi is free and is quite fast) which can help you to relax your aching feet

As a bonus the volunteers also dress up in their 50-60 costumes and show up in their beautiful vintage cars in the waterfront and pose for photos
