Great food. Particularly loved the salad with its subtle sesame dressing. The staff are knowledgeable, attentive, friendly. The only problem: serving dishes together to our small party. A gap of five minutes between some being served and the others receiving their food is, frankly, unacceptable. No excuses. It was early evening and the restaurant not busy. Sorry, guys, you'll have to sharpen up. A lot. This sort of nonsense ruins an otherwise excellent experience.
Yes it can feel like a crowded space and yes you should book ahead, but to me that is a good indicator of how good the restaurant is and negates any inconvenience. The staff are lovely, attentive and good at helping to decide how much food to order. The food is so fresh and tasty with unique touches - the fried chilli on top of our tofu was a neat burst of heat and flavour and the salad had all sorts of interesting vegetables. The indicators on the menu to help with food intolerances/allergies is very helpful, especially as one of our party has dietary restrictions.
This extremely busy and quaint piece of Japan nestled in the top end of Maskell Street Shops St Heliers is our local fav. The freshest fish in town, delicious flavours, great menu choices, quirky wait staff who are also super friendly. Excellent value for your $ and if you love Japenesse, like we do, you won't be disappointed!!! They really do serve one of the best sashimi platters in town (go for the large!!) and absolutely the best soft shell crab in the country. You do need to book in advance as this is a true little destination pearl for the locals. Enjoy!!
We're lucky having this restaurant literally at our doorstep, which means we get to enjoy it both for sit down meals and takeaway. It's a family favourite, great menu, excellent food, good service.
It's always busy, there are never spare tables. Tip.. Book in advance!
