ALways wanted to try this restaurant. Ambience was awesome, quite a massive restaurant and lot of seating arrangements. Service was exceptional and food was great too. Only concern would be the portion of the food according to the price. Usually, in any Asian Restaurant main course portion is quite huge, may be its because they are fine-dining restaurant! Overall, satisfied. Recommended to all who want to experience thai-food and plus point enjoy the ambience.

Arrived without a dinner reservation, we were directed to the third floor and was seated within five minutes. We were a party of four and ordered four dishes to share. Pad Med Manuang (23.50) sautéed pork with vegetables & cashew, Pad Hoy Shell (27.50) sautéed scallop with vegetables, Lamb Cutlet (27.50) NZ lamb cooked with garlic & pepper on a sizzling hot plate, Pla Pae Za (27.50) steamed whole fish with vegetables & ginger. Except for the lamb which was lean, sweet, and flavorful, the other three dishes were barely average. The scallop entree was interesting in that the cooked scallops still had their eggs attached. Having traveled and eaten in Thailand from Chiang Rai in the North to Bangkok in the South, there simply was no comparison. Even in LA, we find higher quality Thai food. Local beer we tried were $8 per bottle. Ambience was tranquil. Food was average. Service was very slow, in taking our orders, food arriving at the table, and receiving the check to pay.

The quality of cuisine in Auckland seems to me to be very high indeed, which means that to stand out from the culinary crowd, you have to provide something pretty special. Mai Thai totally nails that. Set in one of Auckland's older, more characteristically colonial buildings, the restaurant is a great space, with friendly attentive staff, and, being a busy buzzy place on both our visits there, a great atmosphere. The food was as good as I have had - hence the fact we went there twice during our 4 night stay in the city. Excellent dining experience.

This was our go to place for Thai during lunchtime. They had good lunch specials and the food was always good. The service is up to par too.
