We found Parnell the Hop on Hop Off bus tour. Located about a 40 minute walk from Princes Wharf, Parnell has many restaurants, coffee shops, a Christmas shop that has fun New Zealand souvenirs, a home shop that features bedding, tableware, home furnishings. Parnell was uncrowded and we spent a lovely afternoon taking a browse.

Parnell, with Parnell Road at its heart is a great suburb of Auckland full of cafes, restaurants and art galleries. The coffeee is great and less expensive than elsewhere in Auckland. Great views over the city and toward the harbour.

Parnell is an odd place, housed by the super wealthy, the main shopping drag could be from any town in New Zealand. it`s kind of average at best. lacks any main theme, seems like you could still buy cotton for sewing and overpriced crab meat for lunch. something for everyone maybe.

Parnell Road is the place to go if you're browsing for a wedding dress (why wouldn't you be?), a custom-made diamond bracelet, or a piece of art to adorn the walls of your summer house. But seriously, Parnell Road is packed full of delightful little shops and eateries and is well-worth strolling along on a fine day if you are in the mood for something a little more special than the offerings of the chainstores and takeaway spots in most other shopping areas. A great place to grab a decent bite to eat, and to spot the rich and trendy go about their days.

I am so very glad that this funky relic of old Auckland was saved from demolition. Too bad the harbour area wasn't offered the same consideration. Parnell is full of fun shops, boutiques, cafés, restaurants and people. Go!
