Our group really wanted to like this restaurant but the only good thing about it was the location. The outdoor seating was not set up for a rainy day and there were very few indoor tables. Half of our crew got drenched as runoff from the umbrellas doused them when the wind shifted ever-so slightly. The menu selection was pitiful and the burgers, both chicken and beef) we ordered would have best been described as appetizers.....very, very small with little on them and no side such as chips. My son ordered the lamb cutlets which were very tasty, but had very little meat on them (this was on the starter menu, but still expensive $20). The waffle platters looked a bit more substantial and it seems they were okay. Our waitress seemed as though she hated her job which reflected in the flat attitude and lack of concern for our table of 11 very cheerful people who would have stayed longer and spent more money if it were a better experience.

One of the latest additions to the Viaduct is the quirkily named Parasol & Swing Company. The upstairs has the best sweeping view of the Viaduct and Waitemata Harbor. It is a fantastic sit-out spot -- other than smokers on the deck if that's NOT your preferred air to breathe.

The menu is burgers and waffles & shariing and sides. All under $10 or in the low teens 'cept for the crayfish waffle and lamb cutlet @ $20. Some dishes are better value in terms of volume than others but all are tasty nibbles. The wine is what you'd expect -- $11 at the low-end for a very sweet glass of mediocre unknown-brand Hawke's Bay rose to wines from around NZ and the Commonwealth for $teens to highest by-glass @ $18.

The recommended tempura calamari was nicely deep fried. Small portion however, abd served with slices of onions, chilli peppers and spoonful of aioli at the bottom of the bowl. I did not even know it was there until I'd eaten two top calamari which were dry and needed the "sauce".

The P&S Co. also have a variety of "tinctures and cocktails" in the $18-$22 range that did appeal in the descriptive drinks booklet.

Not a blow-you away menu but it's a flash & a bit pricey happy hour/sunset spot for drinks and nibbles.
