“I always wanted to be a 'puffer driver'”

A great place for train buffs. Very well set up. For those who remember steam engines a must to visit. A great place to take all the family - the kids will love it and some Dads!

“Rail me in”
Reviewed 20 January 2012

I love this place. Having 3 grandaughters, they've just loved being taken there by Grandma and Pa. Theme days (Thomas the Tank Engine) have been a rip roaring success - reasonable costs for train journey.

“Steam and fun for the family”
Reviewed 20 January 2012

If you want to introduce the children to the age of steam, then the GVR is the place to go. Plus, their special events are fascinating, like recreating a WWII troop train for the military reinactment groups that spent the day showing off their military equipment.
The new stop at Victoria Station, Waiuku, gives everyone a chance to stretch their legs and visit a heritage town.
The folks that run the railroad, from ticket sellers to conductor are warm, friendly and eager to share their knowledge of the steam age of transportation.

“A great day out!”
Reviewed 8 January 2012

We are the parents of two budding train spotters and most places we travel to we find ourselves looking for some sort of vintage railway for the boys to go on. We have been on the Glenbrook railway twice now on various trips to New Zealand and absolutely love it. It is not an expensive day out and they have great picnic ground there or you can take your picnic with you and have it when the train stops at the end destination. On both occassions we have managed to miss the turn off to reach the Glenbrook railway as it is not well sign posted, all I can say is coming from Auckland, when you get to Glenbrook look for a small community hall and turn left! Definately one we will be going back to when we visit NZ again.
