This is a great place to go if you are looking to find some friendly kangaroos. It takes a bit of time to find them - and sometimes they are hiding in the tall grass - but its all good fun. Incredibly close to Perth city - yet most tourists never find the place.
I visited Heirisson Island a few weeks ago with friends, they had just arrived in Oz and wanted to see the 5 kangaroos that are based on the island. We were able to spot the Kangaroos, one was more willing to let us take pictures with it. You can walk round the island and take many great pictures!
A fabulous walk around the park whilst experiencing many different species of birds. The day was topped off with an excellent sighing of the famous Heirisson Island kangaroo's. They were well hidden in the bush and took some finding but well worth the search.
There are no shops around the island so if it is a hot day would recommend taking some water with you. The local car park is pay and display.
This island is so convenient to downtown and we were told by the locals to give it a visit. Really a nice place to walk and we saw about 7 kangaroos lounging in the sun.
I have visited here a couple of times and really enjoy going there. The island has a nice bronze statue of Yagan and is a peaceful place to take the whole family for a picnic.
