Delightful calamari serving enough for two. Spearmint milkshake was great to go along with after a walk to cable beach.

Excellent sunset location! Food is pretty good, service not so good but the location makes up for everything!

If coastal landscapes will influence your restaurant experience in Broome, then you should consider the Sunset Bar (Cable Beach Hotel), the Mangrove (Roebuck Bay), the Wharf (Port Drive)) and Zanders (Cable Beach).

Judy and I spend time in Broome every year and can recommend each of the above establishments – the Mangrove has been revitalised in the past 12 months.

Recently, on a sultry, post thunderstorm afternoon, we enjoyed a perfect lunch at Zanders. Zanders is a long established, resilient restaurant – it sits directly above Cable Beach, just metres from the ocean – depending on the massive tidal march. On this occasion we were entertained by masses of colourful dragonflies passing by and heralding the end of the wet season.

Zanders is very elemental – it is open to the environment and you must be prepared for varied environmental conditions. It is in an iconic location and I encourage you to visit even if just for a coffee or fresh fruit drink.

When seeking out a meal during the wet season in Broome – don’t assume when restaurants will be open – give them a call first!

On this occasion all we need was a light lunch based on Barramundi Croquettes, crumbed with a green herb dipping sauce and Haloumi Salad with roasted root vegetables, rockette, harissa and balsamic glaze.

The Barramundi croquettes were light and super crunchy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. You could really taste the fresh fish and the dipping sauce was subtle and fresh – yummy!

The beetroot in the Haloumi Salad was sublimely tender and the salad was infused with a smokiness from the roasted capsicum. The haloumi pancake was perfectly grilled, a little salty and very flavoursome. We enjoyed the slight firmness of Haloumi – its texture makes quite a unique contribution to any dish – try it at home.

We sipped our cold draft beer and sauvignon balance – looking out on the expanse of a fine, sandy beach and turquoise ocean. So relaxing if you can ignore the ‘Crocodile Alert’ sign at the bottom of the steps to the beach.

Zanders is a resilient, good value restaurant, it has withstood the test of time give it a try.

We visited here for two reasons. One because we got a discount voucher from our camel ride and secondly because it has an amazing location on cable beach. The service and cocktails were so disappointing. The initial waitress just could not understand us......I know we are from the north of England but! And the cocktails just did not compare to others in the area. Thank goodness we had a two for one voucher! Not a return to place.

Long wait times, bad quality food and super expensive! Only good thing is the location. Won't be back any time soon!
