Owner description: Western Australia’s most famous beach is one of the most beautiful in the world, with turquoise waters and impeccable white sand.

Took a day tour of the sights of Broome with Kimberley Wild Expeditions which took us all around the great sights of Broome, including the outstanding Japanese Cemetary, Matso's Brewery, Dinosaur Footprints, Guantheaume Point, Town Beach and Sunset Pictures, and ended up on Cable Beach in plenty of time to watch the sunset.
My fellow travellers and I took a walk along the waters' edge, the water was cool and calm, the sun low in the sky. Our driver set up the wine and beer, cheese and crackers, a great spread, and out came the deck chairs.
There we spent the next hour or so, as the sun sank slowly in the west, we chatted, we drank and we nibbled to our hearts content! How very cool!
The everchanging colours of the sunset were simply stunning! What a beautiful sight!
Took some great happy snaps and would highly recommend you book a tour that finishes up on Cable Beach, so all you have to do is sit back and relax!

Great to sit and watch the sunset over. Great for shell collecting and letting the kids run along the side where the camels are! Just wonderful!

After being in the turquoise waters of Coral Bay and The Cape Range national park in Exmouth, I was dissapointed by the average waters of cable beach. But the sunsets are amazing, the atmosphere is lovely, and I wouldnt hesitate to return to the area.

April / May 2012 brought along our first visit to Broome. Cable beach could tick most boxes when it comes to exceptional locations. However, the total lack of control with regards to 4x4 vehicles driving on the beach has obliterated Cable beach from our exceptional locations list (and I fear many other visitors too).

Although the vehicles are not allowed south of the rocks (to protect bathers from harm), they literally line up in procession to get north of the rocks. Our observations were that there we no shore birds, thousands of little crabs (for which cable beach was famous) are killed by the vehicles, which we witnessed close up in person. Along with this, an extremely wide area of the beach and dunes are gouged up by tyre tracks. This leaves no chance for shore birds to nest, vegitation to regenerate and the other naturally occuring fauna and flora to thrive.

I realise that the world changes etc, but what happened to moderation, care for one of the biggest attractions (thereby income earners) for Broome; and general respect to those us who would like to let our children play in the rock pool without literally being driven away by the 4x4 vehicles.

If you are wanting a quiet beautiful beach to visit, please think very carefully before considering Cable Beach as your destination.

Visited Cable Beach in May 2012 - first time. As a seasoned Australian traveller- veteran of probably every famous beach in Aus (Byron, Bondi, Palm, Mission, Bells etc) I was looking forward to another icon. Certainly, the water is clear, gentle waves and those Western Australian dunes are very inspiring. BUT why oh why are you allowed to drive on the beach??? We went for a walk at sunset, only to be hotly pursued by a fleet of 4 wheel drives - most cruising at well over 50kms per hour - hurtling along the now eroded sand. Thought about sitting to watch the sunset, but as the light fades, really had to think about whether it would be safe to sit down! And turtles nest here too! Why would you want cars driving along here? Get out and walk! Surely the Broome council has some vision for the future of the beach- and it shouldn't be as a highway!
