It probably says more about me but not a lot to see here bar headstones with Japanese writing on them. I'd suggest a tour or some sort of guide before visiting. Very well maintained though.

Make sure you wear a hat and take water to drink as it is usually hot. Very interesting looking at the old graves.

There are guides who will tell you that the 900+ people buried here were all divers who died trying to get oyster shells for the mother-of-pearl (nacre) and their occasional lucky natural pear. This is incorrect. Some 30 graves are of divers. The remainder were simply members of the Japanese community (now much reduced).

We went there ourselves with no tour. It was good and dot think we needed one.
Its impressive. Most of stones are very nice and artistic.
I’d recommend a quick visit.

The Broome cemetery has a Japanese section that has been rebuilt and fenced following vandalism. Credit has to go to BCC for how well the cemetery has been repaired.
