My husband and I recently returned from the 6 night Rowley Shoals cruise. The boat moors for 2 nights each in the lagoons of Clerke reef and Mermaid reef. The journey to and from the shoals was rather bumpy so come prepared if you get seasick. The staff do provide TravelCalm (hyosine). The Reef Prince has been recently renovated and is extremely comfortable. We had a queen cabin which had plenty of storage space, a very comfortable queen size bed which you could get out of on both sides, heaps of power points, good lighting, a decent sized shower and comfortable to cool airconditioning which is centrally managed through the boat. Sound insulation between cabins was a bit poor and neighbours could be heard if speaking in a normal voice. This was never a significant problem. Engine and generator noise through the night was not too intrusive (I have been on much noisier boats). Our cabin was on the deck above the main deck and definitely experienced more rocking in choppy seas than decks below us. Something to consider if you get seasick. The food is prepared by a chef and it was excellent and plentiful every day.
Activities included diving, snorkelling, fishing and sand island visits. As this is not a dedicated dive boat, diving is done from either a large covered tender which is kept moored inside the lagoon at Clerke reef or from aluminium dinghies (Mermaid reef). Each diver is given a plastic box in which to store loose gear. Space on the Reef Prince is at a premium for storage of the boxes, wetsuits etc and it can get quite crowded on the preparation decks. Divers set up all their own gear and then the tanks etc are kept in the tender and remain there for the 2 days you are moored here. The tender has sufficient space to cater for divers and snorkellers. It has a toilet, a central dry bench, and room for a portable BBQ (to have surface interval snacks of BBQ kebabs!). The tender has a good ladder for climbing back on board. The dinghies are less comfortable but journey times to/from dive sites are pretty short. Tanks and gear have to be loaded and unloaded for each dive. None of the dives are guided, though occasionally Nick or one of the crew would come along for a dive. You are given a simple dive briefing by Nick the captain and then left to your own devices. It would have been helpful to have a picture of the dive site for a more informed briefing. Dive time is limited to 45 minutes max. to enable everyone to be picked up by the boat at around the same time. All the dive sites were interesting with great visability most times. You did not need to go below 30m to see everything. Most dives were a lot shallower. Any sites that had a bit of current were treated as drift dives. We were given several opportunities to snorkel with the returning tide through boat channels in the reef. This was fun. There was one other boat at the Shoals during our stay but we were always the only ones at each of the dive sites. The weather was perfect except for the last day which was windy and very choppy. We opted not to dive this day. Nick and his crew (7 or 8 ) were excellent and couldn't do enough for you. I would happily go back to Rowley Shoals with Kimberly Expeditions.

I have just finished a fantastic trip aboard “reef princess” to The Rowley Shoals .
The diving was fantastic and should be on everyone’s wish list - no wonder it’s rated as the best dive site in Australia. The wall dives are dramatic and superb.

A special mention to Nick and the crew - they couldn’t have been more caring and professional- and the food was terrific.I would jump at the chance to do it again .

We are just back from a superb 5 days out at Rowley Shoal diving. We were well looked after on the Reef Prince in understated good service and facilities. Nick the captain and dive master worked well with Brook the coordinator and the rest of the crew to provide great food and exquisite diving (and snorkelling for those who weren't diving). There was also fishing available for those inclined. I would recommend the Shoals to any divers interested in biodiversity, fish, corals, walls, canyons and gutters. I would recommend Reef Prince with its covered dive tender - Regent - and the other little tenders for small group activities. The whole package was great. Excellent that there was a dive master on board who managed surface intervals appropriately and adjusted dives timings and locations to interests and skills. There were 4 divers amongst the crew. Snorkellers felt well satisfied as there were great bombies and gutters for them.
Thanks for a fantastic dive trip!!

Nick and his team, well they could not of done more to facilitate a great holiday, with cheerful humour and endless goodwill.
This is the second time I have travelled with them and will definitely go again - they provide knowledge and patience.
At the Rowley Shoals they offered more chances that anyone has the energy to take them up on to either snorkel or dive and when you are looking to relax the boat and food are fabulous! Brook's evening wrap ups just complete a perfect day.
