Mt Hart Homestead

This is one of those stays that you'll likely never forget. It's a long old drive off the main track to get there which only adds to the adventure. The homestead is open, spacious and welcoming. There's plenty to explore locally on the grounds and beyond. You might catch a dingo bouncing along the airstrip like we did. Yep, it's expensive. But spare a thought for how much effort went into restoring this old station. Spare a thought for Taffy Abbotts and his dream.

We stayed here for three days, what a great experience, owls and bowerbirds in the gardens, comfortable accomodation, good service, friendly staff. Really enjoyed the campfire behind the bar area at night. Scenery was great and glorious sunsets and lovely starry nights. A lovely relaxing place to stay.

Mt Hart accommodation is not the cheapest. Like most Gibb River Rd places, you pay for the service in an isolated location. At the price, a bathroom is to be expected but it is not provided. The room was large and comfortable but lacked security. The were screens instead of windows and no door locks on the room.
It was all inclusive (dinner and breakfast) and the food was good. The people were friendly and service was good.

Room Tip: The tents have ensuite a. The rooms do not.

We stayed for 2 nights. One night in the homestead and one night in the tent. Whilst the homestead is air conditioned, the beds and pillows are very old and uncomfortable. We decided to upgrade to a tent. They are very exposed to the scorching sun and would be greatly improved by planting a lot more trees around them. Upgrades needed for the price charged.

Stayed here twice in recent months whilst doing Gibb River Road. First time lat May with my wife and after her holiday ended a mate flew over and joined me for a few weeks. Pleasant drive in and safari type accommodation with ensuite so were very adequate. had one night in a larger bungalow and definitely prefer the safari camp option. On first visit staff had a pretty disinterested attitude but on second visit this had been sorted and the place was running professionally. The food and general upkeep of place had improved out of sight. Recommend you spend two nights as there is plenty to do to fill in a day around the place. Great dining and bar area. Thanks for being there so far off the beaten track. Management second time around very helpful.
