Description: Overlooking leafy Bourke Street Hill, Bottega serves some of Melbourne’s best modern Italian cuisine. The menu takes inspiration from regional Italian cooking, with several Sicilian influences. Dusty Treweek, formerly of Comme and Stokehouse, leads the kitchen team, using the highest quality produce across the entire menu. This includes lemons, oranges and nettles sourced from owner Denis’ farm in Rutherglen. Ditalini is made by hand and served with braised duck leg, smoked pancetta, lentils and broccolini. Twice cooked lamb shoulder is slow cooked, served with eggplant, almond and black garlic, while Tasmanian salmon very slowly poached and accompanied by shallot puree, squid ink crackers, watercress and confit lemon. Sommelier Ben Knight has crafted an exceptional wine list, with emphasis on regional Australian wines, and an extensive selection of imported wines specialising in Italian varieties.

My partner and I treated ourselves to an afternoon of theatre on December the 30th, and decided to begin our date with lunch at Bottega. Well, this was certainly a highlight of our end of year weekend! We were promptly greeted by a lovely waitress, who as not only friendly but very knowledgeable of the menu, wines and specials of the day. We shared a beautiful beef carpaccio and beetroot and goats cheese salad for entrees, and went for a hearty lamb dish and a super tasty duck breast for mains. Then just coffees as we had to rush off to the musical, but we will definitively be coming back for dinner and try the desserts. Highly recommended for a special date!

Our daughter chose Bottega as the restaurant to celebrate her graduation and it did not disappoint. The menu is simple with great choices. We decided to go for the three-course option and enjoyed everything from the starters to dessert. In the upper end of the city this is a great local restaurant.

We had a pre-theatre meal and were finished well within an hour, with mains and desserts. The restaurant has a classy feel and the service is really good-so unusual these days. The food was really nice, especially the basil ice-cream, part of the ice-cream platter. Two things held this back from being five star. Firstly although our meal choices were very nice (both pasta), the other options did not sound very appetising. Secondly we had an iceberg lettuce and radish salad which sounded very nice as I love radish, but it was about 98% iceberg lettuce with a few very thin slivers of radish. So that was disappointing. Nevertheless we will definitely be back.
The theatre menu requires you to order by 6.30pm and be out by 7.30pm (not that our table was required at 730pm-in fact we ordered tea/coffee which took us past that time)

We came here for my husband's Chrissy party and were in one of the private rooms upstairs.
The service was really great which is exactly what you want.
Everyone enjoyed their meals with tge2 highlights being the pork belly and beef carpaccio.

You are spoilt for choice for good Italian in the Melbourne CBD.. this place has a great pre theatre menu and I found the service prompt and professional and the manager who served my table was very chatty about the night ahead and the wines on his list .I thought the menu and wine list were very well priced. The wine list is excellent and well priced ..for example the red I had it cost me $50 more the night before in a different restaurant... not that they should put it up ..just but I'll be returning because their pricing policy is clearly directed to the clientele having a good night at an affordable cost
