as an accountant i have clients along the eastern seaboard and its important that i dont have to worry about somewhere to stay. This hotel was a great find- super clean, contemporary and well located in the western part of the cbd. It seems to be family owned and as such there is a real personal touch with the staff.

There is a business centre that has been set up as an office and provides a place where i can take my clients. I had read that it was in a bad place in town but my experience was that it was quiet and surrounded by apartment towers.

I stay at hotel sophia on average once a month when i fligh down from Sydney on business. i found this hotel about 12 months ago and i would not stay anywhere else when i am in melbourne. As the owner of my own business the travel budget is important for me and Hotel Sophia is a great deal. Spotless new rooms, good HS internet complimentary buffet breakfast in the morning is fantastic. There is a great business centre that doubles up as my virtual office when i am doing the sales rounds in Melbourne. The location is fantastic and the staff are impeccable!

Room tip: rear rooms are the quietest

If you want to see the city of Melbourne without breaking the bank, this refurbished hotel with all the amenities in a quiet location is for you. Unassuming from the outside and a very simple reception area, clean rooms, new bathrooms with all the toiletries, hairdryers, robes, iron etc - and complimentary espresso coffee with coffee press, small fridge was a welcome surprise.
Continental breakfast included.
The only real drawback was the hard king size bed! It was like a board and I missed my sleep. The pillow was also hard with no alternate selection. Otherwise a very good experience.

Room tip: Try the beds before you buy!

Really nice little place, we had a great time there. Staff were really friendly. Free breakfast was amazing!!! Fairly central, 2 min walk to Southern Cross station, took a little longer to walk into the main part of the city (Flinders street station, Bourke street mall, etc) but central enough for how small Melbourne is. Room was great, really nice and warm, lots of floor space and good to have a couch, table, fridge and cupboard to hang up dresses and jackets. They were even able to hold on to our luggage on our check-out day, as we were flying out in the evening. Would highly recommend this little place! Cute café around the corner in Little Lonsdale St, “Modo Mio”.

Room tip: We stayed in a superior room which had lots of extra furniture like couch, table, fridge, cupboard etc.

i heartily recommend this hotel for location, cleanliness and price. It is five minutes away from the main train station in Melbourne and is located in a quiet mixed residential / office area of the city. There are clubs and so on on the same street but they are five blocks away. The room was gleamingly clean and as a bed and breakfast that includes a buffet breakfast the price was extremely competitive. The area was quiet and when next i am in melbourne i shall stay at this hotel.

Room tip: 314 on the corner
