My husband and I enjoyed every bit of our tour of yarra valley vineyards with Simon. We appreciated the conversation, the ease, and the insider knowledge of the places we visited. Would definitely work with Simon again.

We are group of 4 and had selected Simon Greenland as our private guide after reading the positive reviews here of his company. The price is high for the trip compared to other companies but we felt the money was well spend and worthy! We had a fantastic time with Simon and gets alot of interesting information, seen the best of the places we had visited (without being surrounded by massive tours groups) - Thanks to Simon! He will also meet any of the requests you have on where & what to see or eat during the trip with some advice of his own as he knows all the places inside out. Thanks also to him to help us reserved the famous scallops pies at the Apollo Bay for our breakfast!
For anyone who is looking for a good private guide in Melbourne....need not to look any further...Simon is the MAN!
Wow, what an experience! This is my SECOND private tour with Simon from The Private Tour Guide after a customised trip firstly in the Mornington Peninsula a few months ago, followed by another tour in the Yarra Valley just last week – he is THAT GOOD!
Simon goes above and beyond to make the tour unlike any other. Being lovers of food and wine, it was like having our own personal sommelier with us to explain all about the wine and how each variety is made. He knows all about the history of the region and its topography, quirky facts plus his wealth of viticulture knowledge is second to none.
After picking us up from where we were staying, Simon went out of his way to personalise the tour according to our tastes and palate, including get us a reservation for lunch at the recent Chef’s Hat, Tarrawarra Estate which was incredible! One of the best meals I’ve eaten in a long time. Lucky for us he booked, as it would not have been possible given it’s popularity. Yummo. It’s this sort of service you hope for and he delivers in spades.
Simon also spent time showing us around other hidden gems that we would not have found if we were driving ourselves around these areas. He took us to great local secret spots and landscape lookouts for those Instagram pics we all love to brag about. With each place you visit, you feel like he knows everyone in town with his welcoming demeanor. His local knowledge is paramount to his authenticity and level of professionalism makes him so unique plus his easy-going nature makes you feel relaxed to soak up the surroundings.
I thoroughly recommend Simon’s tour for all regions around Victoria. He is one of a kind and brilliant at his job….Thanks Simon, you were fantastic!
Simon knows the best places for photography! Great adventure with a great guide. Highly recommended and extremely knowledgeable.
Peter leads us to a pleasant trip starting from the must-go places on the great ocean road. Highly recommended taking the reverse itinerary, complimentary with the surprising attractions, Peter has also briefed us the history & story of the great ocean road. A truly delightful gateway!
We had a really wonderful time doing a day tour of the Great Ocean Road. Pete was very friendly and passionate about the land, and he also had a lot of info about the recent and not so recent history of the area. It was too bad that we could not take many photos at the Twelve Apostles due to the wind and rain (We were unlucky enough to be at Melbourne during the coldest and rainiest week of the year!) but we got to enjoy the view without the distraction of mobs of tourists or trying to take the most awesome selfie there ever was. Truly, beauty can be found in the most unlikely of places. The Twelve Apostles was worth the trip and it's something you won't grow tired of seeing.
The Great Ocean Road Tour had a lot of nice surprises. I shall not spoil them for you but there were a lot of great photo moments there and it was all due to Pete's keen eye and reaction time.
We also stopped by some nice small towns for morning tea, a nice lunch, and an afternoon snack. You definitely won't go hungry and you won't go thirsty either because they provide lots of water on the tour (and no need to worry about drinking all of it - there are a good number of clean toilets along the way).
On a side note, Pete takes better pictures on his phone than I do. So if you don't need a selfie and have an iPhone, he's the right guy for the job.
The Yarra Valley Tour... To be honest, we weren't expecting much from it because there are other places with wine-tasting tours too. But we were proven wrong, so wrong. Simon knows exactly what he's doing. The tour was amazing!!! Even though I'm not much of a drinker, every moment of the trip was memorable.
We started off with a tipsy morning at Domaine Chandon, the most historically significant winery in the valley. Then headed off to meet true-blue French winemaker Dominique Portet at his eponimous winery. The wines there were also excellent and some of us left with a few bottles in hand. After the two wine-tastings, we had lunch at Tarra Warra. For me that was the highlight of the trip. The lunch was delicious and memorable and the view was spectacular. Definitely a must-do. After lunch which came with another glass of wine, we sobered up a bit with a trip to the popular Chocolaterie where you can walk around with a handful of chocolate melts and browse around for some goodies to take home to family and friends. Let's face it, not everyone appreciates a good wine, but no one will say no to chocolate. Finally, we ended our day at another picturesque winery called De Bortoli where we tasted cheese with the wine. Their selection of what cheese goes best with which wine was spot on and another bottle went into the bag.
It was a good choice to go with Simon on this tour. His knowledge of good wines and the wineries themselves brought a lot of value to the experience, and we really got the most out of that trip.
