The Fitzroy gardens are some of the nicest that i have seen in the world. Lots of trees and very well maintained plants. Also lots of interesting stuff to see (Cook's cottage etc.)

We were advised by other travellers to visit Fitzroy Gardens. It was not a mistake. We were in Melbourne as part of a cruise and knew that time would be limited. We ended up taking a tram near to the gardens, exploring some nice streets with coffee shops and bars, before meandering to Fitzroy Gardens. This is a large rectangular park with lots of trees, paths and grass. In a city it is nice to get off the beaten track and relax in this kind of environment. Certainly we have been in nicer, more extravagant locations but for what it is, Fitzroy hits the mark. There is also a nice miniature village in the centre and allows for some good photographs to be taken.

Peaceful, wonderful gardens in the city centre. Visit the Captain Cook cottage while you are there, classed as the oldest building in Australia.

Having an hour to kill I decided a walk was in order. Melbourne was putting on its famous autumnal weather and the gardens were nearby. My last visit was a school excursion so not very exiting as a kid.
However, as an adult there is much to recommend about a leisurely stroll around the park.

It is a magnificent Victorian era garden that demonstrates the young states wealth and vision of our founders. Nicely preserved, lined with Elms, it is a tranquil place that is so close to the city. Prefect for your morning walk and coffee.

Well with the time and letting the world pass you by.

Melbourne is blessed with brilliant parks and this is no exception. We thoroughly enjoyed a walk here after a very busy day. The little Tudor village is worth a look and will delight young children. Very peaceful and well maintained park.
