Terrible service

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 July 2019
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. The room was average, not enough mini toiletries for us both and I had to call them to service our room as it hadn't been done by 4pm.
Couldn't get on the WiFi at all and staff were either overworked or totally disinterested.

The staff are friendly and available to answer questions. The rooms were a reasonable size and clean and comfortable. We ordered buffet breakfast which was only $15 a person. It unfortunately was cold and very unappetizing and disappointing. The location is south bank was perfect just near the river and other venues. It suited our purpose for the night

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. From the 1st of July 2022, the Hotel rebranded from Travelodge to Mercure and changed ownership. At Mercure, we are proud to be locally inspired.

Through this period of transition, we have made some enhancements to the hotel and re-opened the Food & Beverage facilities.

We look forward to welcoming you to Mercure Melbourne Southbank.

The good: Location, friendly staff, rooms were clean.

The bad: Expensive for level of hotel (no fitness centre or in-hotel room service, it's all charge-back from adjoining restaurants and VERY expensive), some rooms have no view at all.

The ugly: Stayed 2 x nights, after returning from an overseas trip for work and on both mornings (which I was hoping to be able to catch up on sleep and reset a little), I was woken at 8am to the sound of hammer drills on the shared wall to my room with maintenance workers drilling into concrete. The sound was intermittent and went on from 8am through to at least 10am when I got up and left the hotel for some peace and quiet. I understand the need for maintenance but there's plenty of options like timing it for the middle of the day, and perhaps WARNING people that maintenance is being undertaken, and perhaps putting people into rooms that don't have a wall sharing the same as that which maintenance is being conducted.

I've travelled a lot for m\work in the last 15 years or so and for a hotel in this location, at this price point, you expect a LOT more than this.

The rooms were set at a certain temperature and were unable to be changed. This made for a very hot, very uncomfortable sleep. It kept going back to 23 degrees which was very uncomfortable to sleep in especially with 4 bodies in the room. The breakfast was only just so so with little variety and what was on the label was not what was being served. I would definitely think twice about staying here again, even if I was desperate.

Top notch stay, very clean, great location and friendly staff. Would recommend to families, business stays etc. Close to the Casino and the river, not too far from the MCG. Breakfast was great value too.

We have stayed here three times and enjoyed each and every time immensely - its a great location in terms of the MCG, DFO and shopping and walking distance to all - there are great restaurants nearby. The rooms have always been really clean and neat and will go there whenever in Melbourne
