Owner description: The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is Australia's largest, oldest and most popular sporting venue. The MCG has hosted plenty of international cricket, including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. It also hosted the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Other sporting spectacles include FIFA World Cup soccer qualifiers, rugby league home and away matches and State of Origin and international rugby union clashes. Apart from its sporting events, the MCG has also witnessed many blockbuster music concerts, and even Pope John Paul II held a mass there when he visited Melbourne in 1986. The MCG has a total capacity of 100,024 people, comprising 95,024 seats and 5000 standing room spaces. The stadium also houses the National Sports Museum, which includes some of the most priceless pieces of memorabilia in Australian sporting history.

The G has great atmosphere. You cannot visit Melbourne without going to the G for a footy match or cricket. The museum is realy well presented also. A great place to visit.

The MCG is an awesome place to visit, particularly to see cricket or football, but make sure you take the time to look at the sports museum.

we visited the MCG last week while we were in Melbourne WE were with two friends &
just wanted to go to the sports museum. When we asked about the tours we were told that there was only one tour that lasted one & a half hours, which we didn't really have time for. So we just decided to have a look around & was told no pay no see. We were very
disappointed & decided to leave . So iam sure you could understand our disappointment
Such action does little to encourage the tourist.
regards
R Ogden .

I returned to the MCG this year for the first time since the demolition of the old member's stand. The shops and facilities of the upgraded stand are quite an improvement, but unfortunately when the old stand went so did the ghosts and spirits of the champions of days gone by. The new facility is sterile but functional. It was heartbreaking to look at where the old stand stood, replaced by the new featureless structure. Sure, go see your favorite team or game, but as for enjoying the hallowed turf, forget it, you have missed your chance.
