Very interesting would advise people to do the watchtower tour to get a feeling what it was like for the prisoners but with a little fun thrown in ,the tour guides were very informative and very helpful a must see when in Melbourne

This is an excellent way to spend a half day to a full day. It’s great value, very informative and interesting. During the school holidays there is a programme where the kids have to crack the code to try to escape jail. Our 9 and 5 year old loved this. The watch house tour was really good but a little scary for the 5 year old. We tried it and had to leave. They treat you as a prisoner and get locked in a jail cell. A very memorable experience but definitely for older kids. They recommend over 6 and I agree based on our experience. The rest of the jail is done at your own pace and is still well worth the visit. Adults and kids alike enjoyed the day!

Thank you for giving the Watch House a try, not for everyone but always give it a go first.
Hopefully we will see you again.

Extraordinary memorial to the ugliness of colonial history. Quite and eerie feeling standing by the gallows where Ned Kelly took the drop, and seeing the death-masks of so many executed there. Not fun, but not to be missed either

If I had to name my greatest fear, it would be being locked up and losing my freedom. Visiting Melbourne Gaol gives you a sense of that. It's creepy and while an excellent insight into the life of criminals, I couldn't go home after this. It was almost like I had to wash off the feelings that came from it. So do add a cleanser to your tour at the end. Go somewhere nice.
