We saw the warriors display during the school holidays with our grand son and thought it was fantastic! If you don't intend to see them in China then this is a good option I think.

We went there for the Friday Winter night special. Good food, nice music, introduction from the curator and a great exhibition. Very good.
This is one of the great unique architectural buildings on Federation Square. Entrance is free for the general part of the museum. It is great to walk around and for Europeans see art by artists you have never heard of.
I actually love the NGV every time I go. NGV nights was a good atmosphere. The music and exhibition were great!
If making a general visit, I recommend beginning at the top and working your way down.
Over the years the NGV has improved out of sight. It's not the Tate or the Uffizi but it reflects australian artists and often host some pretty exciting international exhibits. There's a cool hall with a roof a stained glass that that you can lie under and look up at. Kids love this.
If you're in Melbourne it's definitely worth a visit. And there are some nice gardens across the road and there's plenty of activity on South Banks a five minute walk away.
What an excellent exhibition. Booked online so no waiting in queues. Eight Warriors and two horses along with many artefacts. Matched with the explosive art of
Cai Guo-Qiang, spellbinding and maintaining the high exhibition standard of the NGV.
