A fabulous collection of decorative arts and other collections. As a museum/gallery junkie, the gallery is a very manageable size.

“Seperate Entrances”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

Hi
I'm a local Melbournite and an Art teacher too.
The Gallery is extremely popular as a school field trip/excursion venue with as many as 10-15 schools visiting during peak times.
The galley does an amazing job with them, hosting tours, monitoring child behavior and even utilizing a separate 'school entrance' (The Mouse Hole) so visitors aren't bombarded with chattering school students.
Its a fantastic gallery and a MUST for anyone visiting sunny Melb!

“Visit again and again and always a treat”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

I live in melbourne, so know the collection quite well. The building itself is worth a visit and an appreciation. The collection is vast, and ever growing. since Federation Square has opened, and the Australian art has moved there, it has given more space for the other work. I recommend this gallery to all visitors to Melbourne. It is free entry, but with a cost for some short term exhibitions.

“My second home”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

I have travelled the world visiting Art Galleries and it just makes me appreciate the magnificent, eclectic art collection we have in Melbourne at both NGV (International) and NGV (Australian). We have been served exceptionally well by our NGV Art Directors and their ability to acquire the best works, particularly in relation to Aboriginal Art.
