The Melbourne Zoo has been continually developed over recent years & has excellent facilities for the animals & the viewing public. The zoo is close to the city & as an excellent place to visit & see some of Australia's native fauna & international drawcards

Had the 'behind the scenes' with the Elephants for my B'day - Was totally AMAZING!- The Elephants are really the most majestic creatures of all time.

We had not been to the Zoo since we were children and that is many years ago.
So what a surprise and getting there by Public transport was so easy.
We got the tram from William Street and the Zoo stop is just a short walk,
We wanted to see the Orang-utans and they didn't disappoint.
It seemed like fire hoses they were climbing and then swinging onto platforms where they are in glass enclosures so they love performing if they see you watching.
The new baby elephant was due any day but hadn't arrived when we were there.
So glad we went there were lots of children all seemed to be having a good time.

A very good zoo with some terrific enclosures. Started as a traditional zoo and there are still some relics of this, but has developed a number of natural habitat enclosures for many of the animals on display.

A really great zoo worth the 16.00 AU dollar admission price. The zoo is rather large but no worries. You will be given an easy to folllow map upon entry. If you wish to see animals native to Australia you will see them here--koalas, kangaroos, wallabies and the like. The animals are in their natural habitat, making for a nice meander through the exhibits. Be sure to go to the butterfly house. A wonderful display of many types.
