Last week I participated in a day-long wine tasting tour and lunch in the Yarra Valley one hour outside Melbourne.

It was one of the highlights of my two week trip to Australia and I highly recommend it to anyone, even people like myself who don’t know that much about wine.

Here is a list of reasons:
1. Intimate, small group tour. It ended up being just our guide (Paul), myself and one other guest. Definition of small group! It made everything, from the logistics of getting picked up and dropped off, the time at each of the vineyards, the attention we refused, etc so much better

2. Paul, our guide, was the consummate host. A very engaging, nice gentlemen who was fun to spend the day with and was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the Yarra Valley and Melbourne

3. We went to some high quality vineyards...enough said. And given Paul has such a great hookup with each of them, we got so much more personal attention than the folks on the other tours

4. Wonderful lunch at Yerring Station - all included in the price of the tour

5. Great value - some people may wonder why pay the extra $20-30 for this tour vs lower priced options. It is so worth it. You get a smaller group, better attention at the vineyards and a fabulous lunch. So worth it

If you find yourself in Melbourne and are looking for a fun way to spend a day, look no further and book this tour!

There are quite a few wine tours available to the Yarra Valley, but often these operators will not make it clear what is included in the tour. I did some research and Vinetrekker had a well outlined itinerary of the tour including lunch at the fabulous Yering Station winery. The price was a bit more than the other tours, but it wass worth every penny! First off, pickup from the hotel was prompt and the advertised small group size really did come through - there were only two of us! Paul then took us to a very well narrated tour of five wineries with a lunch and tasting at Yering Station, a definite highlight of the trip. It was wonderful to see Paul's personal connections at each winery and this produced a few exceptional tastings. Paul was immensely knooowledgeable and gave us an information packed tour tailored to our knowledge level. Absolutely wonderful trip!

Rob was our tour guide and couldn't have been better. He had tons of knowledge about the wines and the Yara Valley region, but also was very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and Melbourne history! One of our favorite stops, Medhurst, was great where you taste wines directly from the people that produce them, a very intimate experience at their beautiful new cellar door. Lunch at Yering Station was very surprising in a positive way, we had a beautiful sit down meal with outstanding food and a wine pairing before heading off to our last winery.

Would recommend to anyone in the Melbourne area, tourist or local!

Thanks for your review Kevin and Rob will be trilled to know how happy you were with his guiding and the Yarra Valley Food and Wine Daytour. He is very engaging and has a strong focus on giving his guests the best possible experience. The team at Medhurst are a terrific fit for our tour and apart from being a great bunch of people are also producers of some beautiful wines. Their new cellar door is pretty special too. Not surprised you loved the lunch at Yering Station, it typically surpasses all our guests' expectations. Thanks again for your strong recommendation, we very much appreciate it.

After booking the trip I had a few questions about adding an animal encounter as well as the pick up point as that was not very clear from the booking. I spoke to a representative from Viator who promised to get back to me the day after. I received an e-mail with all the info the next day with all the answers.

Steven picked us up promptly at 8.35 in a spotless and very comfortable van. We were with a group of 8, a couple from England, Sweden and Hong Kong. Half of us went to the sanctuary first, the other half had a full day of wine tasting.

We were dropped of at the animal sanctuary first and Steven made sure to arrange us a volunteer guide and he waited until he was there. He also made him aware of our kangaroo encounter time and off he went to bring the other 4 to their first vineyard.

The sanctuary was great, beautiful place and I saw/ learned a lot about the animals there. We saw koala's, kangaroos, a platypus, Tasmanian devil eating a Wallaby, dingo's and a very fun bird show. I had so much fun feeding and petting the kangaroo, that was a very fun addition to the trip.

We were then picked up at 12.50 again to go to a nearby vineyard. We were so lucky to have picked the most beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky! First wine tasting was great and so easy being on a tour with Steven as they guided us right into a private tasting room.

Lunch after that was in a spectacular place, the view was stunning and the food so very delicious, many choices too. All this while Steven told us more about the area and history of the place. What a nice and respectful man Steven is, we couldn't have asked for a better guide & host!

After this we we went to another vineyard with another round of amazing wines to taste. And big bonus to have this accompanied but a cheese plate that made the wines even better! On our way back into the city was saw three kangaroos hopping through the field, what a great sight!

What a fun day we had, I would not have wanted to miss this in the world, thank you Steven, we had a blast, highly recommend!

Such a great day, started by visiting the wildlife sanctuary , we were so lucky, we saw a dingo eating a random bird that flew into his area, then got to stroke one that was on its walk, made feeding time with the wallabies and stroked them too, and the Koalas were so active, then made our way to 2 vineyards, the first we had lunch at , which was excellent and second the wine was paired with cheeses, Highly recommend this day out we really enjoyed it

Thanks Lou for the review of your recent Yarra Valley Wildlife and Wine Daytour and we greatly appreciate your strong recommendation. It's a terrific tour that combines native wildlife with great wine and food, two things that are very high on the list of activities for visitors to Melbourne. To interact with the animals and witness the drama in the dingo enclosure are memories that will be long lasting. All the best and thanks for your support.

We took a combined wildlife and wine tour. One of the reasons was that it includes two wineries rather than five. We didn’t want to get totally drunk in the end. It turned out to be a wonderful tour. Adrian is so knowledgeable in many aspects of life in Australia not just the wines. The wildlife park was very special with birds show - make sure you don’t miss that. The lunch was perfect, overlooking the valley with excellent choice of high quality dishes. Both vineyards were high quality however we bought many award winning sweet wines at De Bortoli. It’s a very well organized and memorable tour, and we definitely recommend it.

It's a wonderful tour if you're not looking to visit 5 vineyards and provides a terrific overview of two of the Valley's highlights. Adrian brings a relaxed and personal feel to the tour and is able to keep the day moving without you feeling rushed. Good to see you purchased some excellent wines and know they'll provide you with some long lasting memories of your Vinetrekker tour. All the best and thanks again.

An amazing day of food and wine tasting with our guide Stephen. His friendliness in combination with having a small group of eight made the tour fun and personal. Add to that the excellent wines at each of the five vineyards visited that varied in size and the fantastic lunch provided at Yering Station, as well as the paired cheese tatsing offered at De Bortoli Wines and all together it makes for an oustanding experience.

Thanks for your review Culture33040499051 and great to hear how much you loved your recent Yarra Valley Food and Wine Daytour with Stephen. The small size of our groups makes for a more personalised experience and really adds to the days enjoyment. The five vineyards all offer something that's different and are a wonderful complement to each other. Thanks again for your support, we very much appreciated it.
