I was in Melbourne on a study trip and had been booked in Ibis style hotel (Kings Gate). The hotel was horrible thats another story, but this restaurant which was just beside was a real treat. Enjoyed the meal and it was so authentic. I expected it to be not so good as we had in india but to my amazement it was way much better. The staff there are friendly and helpful. We actually had a day out as in which we would be coming back way much later that night and we were worried that we will be hungry thereafter. We asked the staff if we could just pay and order the food and if they could jus do a delivery at the latest time. They very much agreed and they delivered it on time. I ordered the south indian meal and expected some of the food to be spoilt when we were eating at about 12 mn. But to my astonishment it was still good. When i realized the next day that they prepared the food at about 9.30pm and delivered at about 10pm as that was the time they close. Very good customer service. Its a must try for all. Thumbs up.

This is a genuine Indian restaurant plucked straight from South India and landed in Australia.
This is the food I ate in small restaurants as a back packer in India 20 years ago.

The food is wonderful. The menu is confronting for Westerners. Just ask for help.
We went twice on a holiday to Melbourne recently and were probably the only non Indians in there. Eat at the Indian restaurant Indians eat at.

Our whole family was happy including our fussiest 10 yo that doesn't eat anything. He had naan amd mango lassi.

Being regulars of Sarvanna bhavan in India and New York we were hoping to get the same here and we sure were not disappointed!
The Rasam vada and Ghee Masala Dosa both were authentic and very good.
The south Indian thali was good too, only they could improve on the quality of pooris.
They have 10 $ value meals till 2.30 pm and though we didn't try it the combinations on offer were good.
The service was quick and nice too.

Average food...would say that it is losing bit of its old charm. Service is pathetic and the young kids who take up serving have no experience with crowd management or have no patience. Running on legacy name but cannot sustain this way. Business lunch was expensive(especially considering the service and mediocre food).

Enjoyed a great Indian dinner of Masala Dosa and Sambar Vada with some good coffee during a visit to Melbourne at this place. The service is superb and fast with some pleasant waiters and waitresses. The food is good and tasty as we get back in India. The main drawback is it opens only after 10:30AM and closes early at 10:00PM.
