Urban Greek
Ranked #1 of 611 Restaurants in Hobart
Description: Following on from the authentic experience instilled within our restaurant from the idyllic and culture rich island of Crete, we will continue to build on the atmosphere, memories, and recipes to share with our guests. Food is about sharing, creating a moment in time with your loved ones. We make everything with the finest ingredients following ancient family recipes passed on from generation to generation. This is the concept of Urban Greek: traditional family recipes, using only the best in local and Greek produce, where we aim to offer an authentic Cretan dining experience in a relaxed and comfortable setting. Here, at Urban Greek we create memories and we believe everything tastes better when shared. That is the Greek way! Kali orexi.

My favourite destination for dinner and drinks. The atmosphere is always great, and the food, selection of cocktails, beer and wine are all perfect. My partner and I are huge fans and will continue to visit whenever we can.

We dropped in for lunch after a Sunday visit to the markets. I had the urge for a Moussaka (my go to comfort food dish) and this one hit the mark! My partner had the octopus which was thouroughly enjoyed, all washed down with a carafe of Pepik red. Service was warm and friendly from I suspect a greek family member which made the experience authentic. Definitely coming back to work through the menu!

After reading all the hype about this resto, I popped in to Urban Greek around 6pm on Easter Monday. Highly recommend making reservations in advance given the popularity and demand. I managed to get a seat at the bar, the only seat left. Ambiance is lively and casual. Menu is quite extensive with two pages of Entrees and two pages of Mains, plus the daily specials. The mains are very large from what I could tell, which works great for sharing. Dining solo, I opted for the Zucchini chips, the Ouzo Prawns and requested a small Greek salad. Overall, food was tasty, however, the salad lacked flavor (ie condiments) and the shrimp was ever so slightly overcooked. I'm particular about shrimp, it's likely that most ppl wouldn't notice. However, the tomato based sauce on the shrimp was devine. Recommend trying if you'd like Greek.
